141657 2003-05-06 06:17:00 Bit off topic here, but as far as sleeping with your computer nearby I cannot understand why anyone does not get used to the noise after a while. After all, people living next to a railway line get acclimatised to the trains going past at all hours of the night and never hear them and you know how loud they are.

I have a rather noisy wind chime right outside the kids' bedroom windows and they are so used to them that the chimes never wake them up on windy nights. It is a different story when people come to stay though - the wind chimes have to temporarily come down. :D

Methinks it is all in the mind.... ;-)

141658 2003-05-06 06:29:00 I was going to mention that too, Susan. When I was a kid (a year or so ago) I was camping under a viaduct. One of the high ones on the Main Trunk Line that NZR ran trains over every hour or so. I hear the first train go over. Graham L (2)

Or even cheaper & twice as lazy, jam screwdrivers in them :-).

I know someone who stuck a knitting needle in their PSU fan. It ran silently for almost two years.

141661 2003-05-06 08:31:00 I don't know how stable it was for those two years though. I replaced the PSU when it was so buggered the PSU needed preheating with a fanheater before the computer would start.

It looked like things had been getting dangerously hot in there and it was only a 200w running a P150. Then again, given a decent heatsink + the natural airflow of a tower case....

BTW, if your bored, try running the spell checking "fanheater" and "200w" :-).
