141556 2003-05-06 23:20:00 I have just installed Libranet 2.7 on my Dell Latitude Laptop (128 mb ram, 400mhz processor, 6.5 gb HDD and dual booted with win 2000). Its worked great. In the past I've tried Mandrake up to ver.9, Redhat 8, Debian (no go too difficult), Progeny and 3 different versions of Libranet.
Using Libranet you have a fairly easy install with the advantages of Debian i.e. apt-get etc. Downside is it costs, although this latest version I've tried is a cut down version, which Comes at 24.95 US and I downloaded, but it is still good and it motivates me to install the software I think I need, either with tar files (which I'm grappling with) or with apt-get off the Debian site.
It configured Xwindows a breeze, found my Xircom modem no problem and the same with the sound card (Mandrake & Red Hat always had trouble with these and never found the sound card).
If you are interested in checking it out go to www.libranet.com. Another thing their support is excellent; none of that RTFM rubbish

141557 2003-05-06 23:30:00 Being about to dump Millennium 2 and not impressed with the reports on XP SP2 and the conditions attached. I want to try Linux but still run my old programs, what are the difficulties if any?
Can I swap from one system and back again?
Can access documents Photos etc?
Any other comments? Please

Dont we all - Some of the old programs will work - with Yoper, Ive seen Photoshop 7, IE 5.5, Office 97,2K, and XP, and a myriad of other apps working fine!

> Can I swap from one system and back again?

If you Dual-Boot, then yes! Simply reboot your PC and choose from the list of OS's at the start :-)

> Can access documents Photos etc?

'Course ya can!

Its becoming more Windows-Convert friendly, especially Yoper. Go for it if you're keen!

Yes - I can HIGHLY recommend Yoper Linux, as he's designed it to get rid of his installation of doze.. comes with Wine, Crossover Office etc.

He can convert a whole office to Yoper Linux in a weekend - or so he claims!

Im personally gonna be buying Yoper as soon as my wallet has a $90 credit :D

I have Yoper V1, which I really enjoy - although it does not come with Wine or Crossover Office. Where did you get this info?

141561 2003-05-07 22:21:00 Thanks, this learning curve is coming along fine.
Now. there seems to be a whole new lot of terminology involved
Is the a site I can go to for a list and explanation?
(My next move is to convert a few of the SeniorNets I'm in)
