141842 2003-05-06 09:56:00 I have a new Microsoft Office keyboard that works fine except for the quotes ("). In order to get it to work you have to press the key twice -- or follow it up with another key. Just pressing " on its own puts nothing on the screen.

I can't see anywhere to change this behaviour. (I'm running XP.)

141843 2003-05-06 10:02:00 hi there i have win XP to and have been told by others and have worked this out by myself ....that you should use the space bar after you use the" " because it changes it to being correct in fount or behind the word.

its just the way it is apparently.
you actually get used to it if you do a lot of typing ( students and workers etc)

does this help?

i dont know of any settings to change ot change it either.

If I remember correctly it has something to do with the type of keyboard you have selected. Go to Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, select Languages tab and click on Details. I think the keyboard should be English (United States) - US. I might be wrong, but see if that works.

141846 2003-05-06 10:21:00 You shouldn't need to settle for that - it's somewhere in the language/keyboard/regional settings, and it can be changed.

141848 2003-05-06 10:44:00 You want the keyboard to be listed as a US keyboard. Found in regional and language settings. -=JM=- (16)

But if you're having to add extra keystrokes just to get a " then it is broke :)

and yes, that " came from Windows XP - just XP set up properly.

To get to the correct tab for setting it, go:

Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings > Languages tab > Details Button... make sure your Keyboard is set to "US".
