142007 2003-05-07 04:24:00 I was burning a few CD's and when finished, I attempted to open Word 2000, then a little pop-up dialog box appeared saying...Word cannot open because the system has run out of memory or there is not enough hard drive space. So I tried logging off then got the BSOD saying...

STOP: 0x00000023 (0x000E00c8, 0xb9f8e70c, 0xb9f8e364, 0x8053ebe3) FAT_FILE_SYSTEM

Address: 8053EBE3 base at 804D4000 Date Stamp ????something - NTOSKRNL.exe

Can anyone help me here, this has been happening alot over the last few months but with different errors! :_|

142011 2003-05-07 05:41:00 Does it only happen when you burn a CD?
Open Word2000?

What other applications are running?

If I had to take a blind-stab-in-the-dark-with-no-arms at this stage, I would say that it sounds like a memory leak somewhere.

Not much running in the background apart from AVG.

This is a fresh install of 2000 Pro same thing was happening when I had XP installed, thats why I went back to 2K but, same old same old.

Yea maybe thought it could be, have 256MB PQI

Think it could be the M/B? Its a Iwill KK266, they are suppose to be a fast M/B but can have stability problems, I read that somewhere on the NZ Overclockers forum.

142013 2003-05-07 11:36:00 If you had the same problem with both XP and 2k, I would say they odds are extremely against it being an OS problem.

It would then be either an application you ran under both OS's, or a hardware problem. Hardware problems are a bit of a bastard, because unless you know exactly what you are looking for, its really hard to say yes thats the problem.

I would guess that if its hardware, it will be memory, mobo or HD, or some interaction between them, but hardwares not really my thing. I tend to replace things one at a time and see if the problem goes away... but I guess you dont really have spare memory, HD and mobo lying around...

142014 2003-05-07 12:57:00 Microsoft suggest: (its a well documented problem)

SUMMARY

A Windows 2000-based computer that uses the FAT file system may generate the following error message:

STOP 0x00000023 (Parameter1, Parameter2, Parameter3, Parameter4)
FAT_FILE_SYSTEM

MORE INFORMATION
This error message can be generated when a problem has occurred when you are using the FAT file system . There may be a physical problem with the disk, or an interrupt request packet (IRP) may not be able to be successfully completed or may be corrupted .

Troubleshooting steps:

Disable all file system filter drivers, such as backup utilities, virus scanners, or firewall software .

Ensure the integrity of the file system by running Chkdsk . exe .

Check the file properties of the Fastfat . sys file to ensure that it matches the current version of the operating system or service pack .

Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions .

W2k needs SP2 installed to correct this known problem .
However one would have thought that XP would have covered it?

So maybe my next step is to try different hardware.

The STOP 0x00000023, is not the only STOP error I'm recieving, I've had about six different ones so far, even had a couple relating to the audio (Kmedia) or something.

Is my next step to change my hardware or could there be a driver problem?

Tried different Vid drivers (Nvidia), Via 4in1!

This has been getting worse over the past weeks. Started off with my monitor going black for a couple of seconds to crashing and freezing.

Maybe I should throw my Iwill M/B in the rubbish and get a new one, this is getting really frustrating!

I have SP3 installed with 2000 Pro
