I am helping a friend replace his Bigfoot Hdd ( with lots of bad sectors) with a Seagate 7200 40gb into his P200 Soho Mb. With no joy what so ever. It locks up at every chance when detecting the new Hdd or when starting and checking for the new Hdd. It still detects the old Hdd, but that wont boot cause its stuffed. I have tried older Hdd's 1.2 gb, 500mb & 170mb but even they dont get detected. Only the bigfoot. I've tried disc managers segate and a couple of other generic 1's. Still they cant complete because the ide or board reports no Hdds attached. Has anyone come accross Y a MB dosen't detect a Hdd. Any theorys or sugestions would be great. |

Had a look in the BIOS? Should have a drive-detection heading or set master to auto. Depends on Bios age. |

Try setting the size limiting jumper on the drive. It will limit you to 32gb, which may be the most the BIOS can handle. |

Well thats a new 1. It worked. Detected it as a slave 34 gb so trying to get it to boot as primary. Thanks for your advice. |

Will be a jumper setting on Hard drive. If more than 1 device on that IDE lead, make sure other is Slave. |
