141815 2003-05-06 08:09:00 If I have a AGP 8x video card, can I put it in a slot that's only agp4x? Will this damage the card at all, or will it just happily run at 4x?

Mike.

141816 2003-05-06 08:16:00 Dont worry - I just check the Gainward site and that says that their 8x card supports 4x :)

141820 2003-05-06 10:07:00 I asked this exact same question a few weeks ago Mike. I wanted to know if my GF4 8x would work in a 4x slot.

The answer:

Yes it does :) I put it in my machine no troubles at all. The card automatically detects your agp bus speed and adjusts accordingly.

As someone else said, they make them backwards compatible for everyones benefit and to make more money!
