142616 2003-05-09 03:07:00 Internet connection not working.

Modem, is detected and diagnostics show Port Com3,Interupt 10, Address 1040, Uart NZ16550 AN, Modem generic HCF PCI.

A few other details are listed as well but they don't mean much to me.

OK so modem is detected and working. Select MS Outlook, enter name and password details and tell it to get the mail. Nothing happens till eventually error 630 (the modem cable is correctly and securely connected at both ends.

Removed and replaced the Dial up adapter.

Removed my ISP connections from dial up networking and made new connections.

TCP/IP settings look fine.

Networking settings and protocols look fine.

Its almost as if there is no association between the modem and MS Outlook, Internet Explorer and a few other internet progies I use.

AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz, 512 RAM, 20Gb HDD Op Sys is Win ME ( and no, using restore did not correct the problem).

142617 2003-05-09 03:36:00 Interupt is incorrect, is that because COM1, your Serial Port is being used? COM1 and COM3 share the same IRQ but different Memory Address. IRQ 10 is not the IRQ assigned to COM1 or COM3 it's IRQ4 (guessing from memory) and COM2 and COM4 use IRQ3. IRQ10 is however a free IRQ and usually gets assigned the Video Card.

Try and get your modem connected on COM4 using IRQ3 		Kame (312)
142618 2003-05-09 03:37:00 Actually it sounds like the slot you have you modem connected to is sharing the AGP slot with IRQ10? Move the modem to another slot. Kame (312)

This machine is around two years old now and nothing at all has been changed inside, like the modem has always been installed in whatever slot it is now, and for all that time no problems.

As for IRQ, it detects no conflicts, I don't think I can manually set the IRQ's, might be wrong, but I think the computer sets them on initial installation of the modem. I would have a look now but I am on a diff machine at work. :-) 		Curly (487)
142620 2003-05-09 22:33:00 Kame, no that was not the problem, changed the modem to another slot, modem is detected OK with COM3,Interupt 11, Address EC00, Speed 115000, identifier CXT\HCFgenericmodem.

Interesting control panel/system/modem no longer contains a resourse tab so I have no idea what IRQ it is now using. Strange.

But I have found somthing that might/is significant. I had the modem sound turned off and then while the modem was supposed to be dialing, I picket up the phone but it was not dialing at all, so the problem looks like being somewhere else.

The port was disconnected due to hardware failure.

or area code and dialling properties set wrong

I have noticed before that both the HCF modem and the enumerator lidsted as well, but what is significant about it - just in case it happens again :-) 		Curly (487)
142625 2003-05-10 09:14:00 Huh, error 630 on my computer talks about cables correctly pluged in, anyway I moved the modem to another computer and of course it worked perfectly well - I'll be damned!!!

However I noticed/found that the dial up adapter is missing from the computer the modem came out of. Now who's knows how I put it back? 		Curly (487)
