142186 2003-05-08 20:29:00 *ahem* the pleasant surprise is a leaner more efficient OS which in turn would in turn improve the speed of Systemworks with less files to negotiate. ;)

I found this out by upgrading from ME to XP and now I am scheduled to repeat this process (reinstal windows) annually in an effort to maintain a well oiled computer system.

I have always been a keen advocate for annual reinstalls to keep a machine functioning well.

A funny thing happened to me when re-activating NAV after restoring my daughter's C: drive from a pre-expiry Ghost image.

After going through the process of getting a new activation code (using the original order confirmation code from an on-line renewal) NAV gave me another full 12 months subscription. This added to the residual from the existing subscription, giving 20 months more service.

Of course, had I not done an earlier online renewal and paid the fee, I would not have had this serendipitous experience. :|

My only reason for mentioning this is that your mileage may not vary ;)

Cheers

142189 2003-05-09 08:08:00 Not to say you should do this, because norton is a great product and well worth the subscription fee.
But since i use my computer often and often bugger something up requiring a format (backing up isn't a problem 180GB over 3 drives) in the time that i have for the norton virus's protection. As mentioned above the time reset when you install it on a new os.

but on a sidenote if you can afford it pay for the subscription do it, i ant trying to encourage piracy.

142190 2003-05-09 09:55:00 I would define piracy as a deliberate act of stealing,if Norton through there inability to keep track of what is happening with all there customers, happen to give you more than they should,I think they are in need of fixing there systems,so I can't see how you could call it piracy.
What say you Billy?

142193 2003-05-09 14:24:00 I have used Norton 2002 when it has expired, by downloading the Virus update from Symantic. Then set the computer date back a year. Run the update file. Reset the date.
You can not update online to the program, but it installs OK from the hard drive.
I now have 2003 as 2002 would not work with my new Motherboard.
