2003-05-11 01:42:00 | I just tried to install Battlefield 1942, but it doesn't do anything... Autorun doesn't work, Setup.exe doesn't do anything either. I've tried this from both CD Drives in my machine but nothing happens. However about a week ago I installed it fine. I have reformatted (this morning), but what am I missing? Mike.

2003-05-11 05:12:00 | More info: When I try to open ANY executable on the CD I get "Program too big to fit in memory"... However there's as much RAM in there now as there was last week when I first installed it - 256mb. All my other CDs seem to work fine, just the BF1942 cd. Mike.

2003-05-11 05:18:00 | Also I tried opening the CAB files on the CD and although one of them was 500mb+ in size, when I opened it it told me it contained no files. Something has gone awry :( Mike.

2003-05-11 05:56:00 | <sighs> nobody knows, do they? :( Okay, so I just tried another 256mb of RAM, and even with 512mb it says "Program too big to fit in memory" - funny since the program is only about 165k! ?:| However last week it installed fine on 256mb of ram, and it installed fine on my friend's computer today too - pretty much the same specs as mine (almost identical) and also with 256mb. What could it be? There was nothing unusual loaded in memory as I've only just installed XP (as had my friend). Mike.

2003-05-11 07:35:00 | I've now just tried another CD ROM drive, so I've ruled them out as well (that's 3 drives I tried). What could it be? This is frustrating, cause my friend's computer is pretty much identical to mine (different brand HDDs and CDRoms, everything else is the same), but while his installs fine, mine just will not. | 143034 | 2003-05-11 07:58:00 | somehow i remember hearing about some problem between winxp and bf1942. try installing the most recent patch for bf1942, and asking on a bf1942 forum they might know :D | tango (2697) | |
2003-05-11 08:39:00 | Have you tried installing any other games since reformatting, Mike? If you are having problems with other games as well then you could start looking for problems with your reinstall rather than blaming this particular game. | Susan B (19) | |

Everything else I've installed works fine. It just seems to happen with these 2 CDs, and a copy of the 2 CDs... not one of the executables on the CDs work (not even the demos), nor can I view inside CAB files on the CDs (yet I can view other CAB files)... It just doesn't make sense! Mike. |

2003-05-11 09:01:00 | That is really weird, Mike. No wonder you are so frustrated. :-( Done all the Win XP updates? Given the CD a good clean? (of course you have - I am clutching at straws here! :p)
