| 143014 | 2003-05-11 00:39:00 | I recently set myself a challenge. I decided I was going to clock FreeCell. That's right, every single game, from 1 to 32000. or is it 320000, I can't quite remember, but basically, I'm starting at 1 and working my way up as far as the game wil let me go. I would like to know two things. 1. Microsoft used to happily mention that it wasn't known if every game of FreeCell is solveable. Has this fact been cleared up yet? Do we know if I am attempting a futile task or not? 2. My windows 98 machine has only the aforementioned number (well, one of them) of games, whereas my happy little WinXP machine will gladly let me put in any number up to 1000000. I had always assumed that the Windows 98 version had every possible combination of the cards available for play, are some of that million just repeats? Please, if anybody has heard information about this, I would love to know about it. Some links to reliable info would be greatly appreciated... Yours Ambasluv |

| 143015 | 2003-05-11 01:32:00 | Hey My grandad clocked a few games of FreeCell - he wouldn't tell me how many games he had to play just to clock them though :p... I have heard however that not all games of FreeCell are solveable - but then again why make a game if it isn't possible to finish it? I'm not too sure about question two however sorry. CyberChuck |

| 143016 | 2003-05-11 02:13:00 | From the kpatience help file: "...Freecell is solvable at a rate of 99.9% approximately (of the first 32000 deals there is only one unsolvable - 11982 if you want to know)." |

| 143017 | 2003-05-11 06:04:00 | I particularly like Freecell because it's a skill game and not totally reliant on luck, and most games take only a few minutes. Is there anything similar available? Many other patience games are frustrating because they cannot be won. After a long evening working on the computer I find it a good idea to play games for a while, otherwise I carry on "computing" in my sleep and can have a restless night. |

Well if your into Chess, you can head on over to That will let you play either via your internet browser (through a plugin I think) or you can have it installed onto your computer. Either way you can play against everyone/anyone" target="_blank">zone.msn.com and download Chess. That will let you play either via your internet browser (through a plugin I think) or you can have it installed onto your computer. Either way you can play against everyone else in the world who has it. It works excellently over a 56k as well :D CyberChuck |

| 143020 | 2003-05-11 07:51:00 | But......... Isn't Freecell reliant on the deal? Prefer Chess myself!! I get the same deal every time. JMHO!! |

| 143021 | 2003-05-11 08:46:00 | I can remember that we had a really good discussion on Freecell some time back, probably on the "old" forum, but I can't find it now . Someone provided a link to "hints" on solving the most difficult games . bmason could be right about the ones that are unsolvable, but I thought they were just nearly impossible . I know that I have not been able to solve the first "impossible" game and boy, have I tried! :D |

Hi Susan . Did you manage to solve game #617? I managed it eventually after much trying and have listed all the moves according to my version (no, I didn't cheat . LOL) . Would you like me to e-mail a copy? The discussion mentioned above was started by Dutch Nick on 14/02/02 12:26:28 . I tried a search but it only brought up three of the many postings, however I have them all in Notepad format . Would it be acceptable to post them here without contravening any rules etc . If OK I will post same . (It is lengthy but not excessively so . ) Cheers :) |

| 143023 | 2003-05-11 11:42:00 | Hi exLL :-) Ummm... no, I am still stuck on game 617. :p If you could email your version to me that would be good, but I will have to have a few more tries at it when I get time, to see if I can get it myself. I don't like being beaten! :D Thank you for offering to post that thread but I am not sure anyone else would be interested in it. If we could provide a link to it that would be fine, but to copy it all out here might be a bit much, unless someone asks for it. If you could include it in your email to me I would appreciate it. It is a real shame that so many of the old threads are "lost" as I have recently been trying to find quite a few old posts without any success. |
