142670 2003-05-09 08:38:00 Yeah trillian is really good. I would recommend it to everyone who asked. Just make sure you apply the patches which they release. But my parents deleted all my messenger programs (really annoys me cos' I'm a teenager and I love talking to all my friends around the world). But yeah I would say it's excellent Brendonny (929)
142671 2003-05-09 08:45:00 Trillian is the best. I use v0.74 with the FREQUENCY skin. This skin has sounds and a slick interface. Some examples of sounds are
LOL - a big grinner with Tim Allen grunting
(@) - a pussycat meowing
(&) - a dog barking
(B) - a beverage with Homer saying "mmmmmmmmmm"
:-? - a puzzled look like ?:| with Tim Allen's questioning sound.

And that is just a few, but not all emoticons have sound because I can use 81 odd of them with this skin. I tested other skins which had 150 of them.
There is no adware/spyware/banners and just the one program.
It is a nice efficient tool to use.
Make sure you get the patch too.

142672 2003-05-09 09:42:00 The only thing I hate about trillian is the the default skin. Not because its ugly, but because its almost impossible to use if you are not familiar with the programme.

I don't know how many potential users they have lost because it gives a very bad first impression. I wouldn't be using it if I hadn't spotted the windowsME skin while waiting for it to download.

The first time you use it I recommend installing a more usable skin (eg windowsME or windowsXP) before you run it for the first time. It will give you a choice of installed skins when it is running the inital setup, so you don't have to try and find the skin settings.

142673 2003-05-09 11:47:00 Hi beetle,

I can highly recommend Trillian too. It's cool having just one program (one interface to learn :-) ) to handle all the commonly used instant messenger protocols. I'm sure there must be less memory/resource overhead running one program instead of two or more. Personally (imho), I found the ICQ program has the worst cobbled together interface of any program I've used. I absolutely hated using it. Mind you, I haven't tried a newer version, so maybe it's improved.

To answer your question: "... does this program run as one and all other (yahoo, msn, icq etc) run through it?"- Trillian just connects to the protocols used by ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, etc, etc. It is a completely separate program and doesn't need any of the other programs to be installed to use those programs protocols over the internet.

Why do people use this program? Hmmm, well, one thing that used to annoy me about MSN is that it didn't automatically log my chat sessions. You have to save the chat session manually with MSN. With Trillian there is an option to save all chat sessions automatically, if you want.

Trillian doesn't contain any spyware or advertising either. I just use the free version myself.
