143137 2003-05-11 05:55:00 He's a webmaster and I used his links to email some help with his website, but when he tried to reply he got "unknown server -- syntax error", which indicates to me that he's typing the address rather than just hitting reply. Maybe has oddball software. Could a keyboard that's set for French perhaps be using different ASCII characters to those we use?

He has snail-mailed twice and the second time said "It is always impossible for me to send you e-mails. Your address is not recognized. It is curious that that works only in a direction... Why don't you create an address on Hotmail or other that we can exchange mails?" [He apologised for his "very bad English"] His typed letter didn't have accents over any of the characters.

No-one else seems to have trouble emailing me, so the problem must be at his end.

I don't know how to get a Hotmail address and guess that asking Mr Google would help, but is it really likely to help?

Any suggestions?

143139 2003-05-11 06:21:00 P.S. I'm with Infogen, if that helps. Deebee (1184)
143140 2003-05-11 06:28:00 Oops, we clashed.

His address is [Username]@infonie.fr and I'm [Username]@ infogen.net.nz. Unfortunately I don't know anything else about his set-up.

After his last letter, received on Friday, I also gave him my sister's email address as she is with a different ISP, but she hasn't heard from him yet either, though being the weekend could make a difference.

Why would the date be any factor with EMails. The EMailman always gets through? The EMailman doesn't take time off. The EMailman does what he is told, deliver the packets.

143143 2003-05-11 06:50:00 No, my emails leave okay, and he receives them okay -- he just can't reply for whatever reason.

Re weekends -- I meant that when the sun shines at the weekend I'm not here, and he could be the same.

143145 2003-05-11 11:30:00 Just get a hotmail account.

http://www.hotmail.com

But be warned you will get lots of junk mail. Try lycos mail instead, your friend will definitely be able to send to you there.
