You'll wanna make a folder, keeping them in /mnt/ will keep things simple.
How about calling it /mnt/hda1 which is no doubt your Windows Partition (Unless your CD-Rom is Master...)
Now, login as root (su -) and then you'll then want to change the access rights:
# chmod 777 /mnt/hda1
This will give Read and Write access to everybody to it (Unless you partitioned it as NTFS - Then you'll need the ntfs rpm for Read-Only access).
then you can do it for a one-off thing:
# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1

Now, to make it more permanent, you'll wanna edit /etc/fstab
simply add a line down the bottom, copying basically everything from the lines above:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 auto defaults 0 0
Should be about right :-) Reboot and its there :-)

Suspend is through XScreensaver I believe.. dont think Linux can Hibernate.

Try GAIM, or there's a Linux version of MSN from www.mess.be that supposedly is good.

Okay... probably easiest if you use the GUI, but otherwise the .conf file is in /etc/samba/ and its called smb.conf
You really only need to change it to:
security = share (Default is user or something like that...)

From there, try going down and looking at the other shares. Make something like this:
[Transfer]
path = /transfer
public = yes
read only = no
comment = Transfer to LinuxBox

Dont forget to chmod 777 the folder and you're away!
The command for the GUI configurator of samba is redhat-config-samba (I think.. Ive only got RH8 @ the moment :-))

143080 2003-05-12 09:40:00 Cool!
Like I've said, I've got the drives mounting now (which was more good luck than good management :p)
Anyway, I have a 56K Dynalink Internal 56k modem 1456VQH-R3 with a Conexant HCF Chipset. I downloaded the drivers from linuxant.com and double-clicked on the RPM, this brought up a few screens - reading Package headders and so forth, and then it was over, so I assumed the install had gone according to plan.
The only problem is, following the instructions, I can't access the modem, and there is on /ttySHCF0 device listed in the list of possible modems...

GAIM was the messenger that came with Linux I think ?:| - however it only supported ICQ so it wasn't too good for me at the moment - mainly because I don't have a net connection :(

I'm not going to worry about Samba at the mo, until I get the remaining part of my network fixed ;).. Bit hard networking without network cables :p

Any more help for this dummy modem-wise?

Have you done step two of the installation instructions? (ie run "hcfpciconfig" from a root terminal). It will tell you if the driver was installed correctly.

Message me on ICQ and I'll see about dropping them round sometime and getting them back to you :-)

That wasn't in the instructions ?:| - there was just run the RPM, then go into some strange terminal based program and change the serial settings on one of the devices to /dev/modem... Still I'll try hcfpciconfig later tonight

Nah, Don't worry about it - I'm off to Mission bay this weekend to pick up my grandma's computer, so I might see about detouring out to your direction to pick them up then.
I'll send you an email/message of some sort later in the week when I can make my mind up :p

These instructions: www.linuxant.com

You will need to run hcfpciconfig from a terminal because the interface is all text based. Hitting enter to all questions (which picks the default) worked for me.

143085 2003-05-14 09:30:00 Ok
I downloaded the Athlon Package and that didn't work
Installed and deleted twice and it didn't work
Then downloaded the generalized .tar version and that's not working either :_|

Any more idea's or shall I put it down to incompatible modem and user stupidity??

143086 2003-05-14 09:37:00 What was the error message?

You have to match the driver to the exact kernel version (grumble grumble...). So a 2.4.18-5 module won't work with 2.4.18-6. As the download pages says, you can get the version number by running "uname -a" from a terminal.
