143124 2003-05-11 05:53:00 I use NOD 32 as an anti-virus package, mainly because it is the fastest around and consistently wins the awards for the top anti-virus checker.

However, always good to have a back up and there are some good free ones out there that are probably better than the likes of Norton. AVG gets recommended a lot and I've had it on an old PC and it seems to do the job pretty well.

However, have been using Avast as well which you can download for free at ww.avast.com and they provide pretty regular updates. It even talks to you when it has done an automatic update, which it seems to do every few days. Pretty easy to use as well although not quite as fast a Nod (but no worse than the last version of Norton I tried).

I reckon there is no excuse now to buy anti-virus software. By the way, you can get NOD for free if you buy PC User magazine each month.

Gladiator scanner (GAV) is another that is worth keeping an eye on. I've had a few problems with the early releases in getting them to work, but this could be quite a good system once it matures a bit. Have a look at http://www.gladiator-antivirus.com/ 		twelvevolts (2623)

that'd be the ones commissioned by the company that makes NOD 32 I'd say :)

Not necessarily... The only way NOD and AVG can be free for personal use is by having corporate users buying them. Otherwise the product designers and good 'ol guys that make the "virus hunters" would be looking for another form of work - People need to make a living somehow

Cyberchuck - I think that you will find that NOD32 is not free and that twelvevolts did not say that it was.
