| 143770 | 2003-05-13 08:45:00 | Twice recently when I have started up I have ended up with the pointer and the waving MS logo which just goes on and on. I have had to reboot and then have the usual check done because of bad shut down. I have checked search but there are 1500 returns on "startup problems" and only checked about 50-60 before deciding it was rather fruitless. Sure that the problem covered many times before. Is it the herald of a greater problem to come please or nothing to worry about ? I use Windows ME. Only thing changed recently is to stop C-Media Mixer and Adaptec Direct CD from starting in the background on startup. ?:| |

| 143772 | 2003-05-13 09:08:00 | The odd start up hang is not uncommon to get especially with WinME (from my own experience). If it happens again, when you reboot press F8 to get into boot up options. Listed will be a logged start up, as well as a step-by-step confirmation with an option to logged the details as well. You can later check this log (found under C: as BOOTLOG.txt) for hints for what may be happening. Jen |

| 143773 | 2003-05-13 09:24:00 | Ok Jen C - I will keep a note of that and have a go next time it happens. (nicnz - I stopped them by using "selective startup" from Run msconfig. It starts the majority of times fine. As I said I have only had the problem twice but the thought of a reformat, no matter how unlikely, is daunting until I know more than I do now. It starts fine in Safe mode although I have to tap F8 continuously and it only gets there the 3rd or 4th try). :) |
