143672 2003-05-13 07:41:00 I would like to replace my hard drive with a larger capacity one. From what I gather from this forum, I just can't throw any ole size in.

So the question is, how do I find out what I can use in my system?

Thanks John.

143673 2003-05-13 07:43:00 first of all you have to find out what motherboard you are using.. you can do this by either visual inspection, or you can download a program called sisoft sandra that will tell you what make/model you've got.

Once you have that figured out, you can find out almost anything about your motherboard and its capabilities

143676 2003-05-14 10:40:00 Ok Guy's,

I've found my motherboard make and model [Intel Corp D815EEA].

But I can not find my answer to HDD size limit's.

143677 2003-05-14 11:33:00 Real old motherboards have a HDD size limit of 504Mbytes. Up to about 1998 or so the limit was 8.4Gbytes. From a quick Google search, your motherboard looks about PIII era, so the 8.4 limit should not apply (I guess). The next limit is 137Gbytes.

Hope that helps namesake!

143679 2003-05-15 05:57:00 Thank's JohnD , It is a PIII ,circa 2000 build.

So it looks like I can use a moderate size HDD, (40 GB) no problem .

That will do the trick I think!!

Nice to hear from ya , JohnD
