| 143539 | 2003-05-12 14:42:00 | This is the Setup I have: 98 Server:Router 2 PCS: Win98 2 Laptops: XP Win98 PCs can see each other and the router. XP Laptops cant see the win98 machine but can see each other. I created a networking disk from XP and installed it on all 5 machines with the same workgroup name. The 98 machines cant see XP either. They are all set up to obtain a IP automatically. What else can I do to help XP detect 98 or 98 detect XP. IS there a firewall or something blocking When I try to search the network that 98 machines are not even listed. Cheers for the help |

| 143540 | 2003-05-12 18:54:00 | Dont obtain an ip automatically on the XP pc's. Click on the LAN icon, and give them the ips 192.168.0.1 x .02 etc. Same as the 98 PC. What version of 98 are u using? 98 or 98 SE? You need SE, if you want to use ICS (so, the XP PC's can get onto the net). The normal 98 doesnt support ICS (internet connection sharing). Also what v of XP have you got? Home or Pro? If it's PRO, open Windows Explorer, Tools/Folder Options/View/SImple file sharing, tick this. Then share a folder on the XP PC's. Are you using a HUB? Don't bother using the Network Wizard. It sux, and makes things worse. You DONT haveta use it. A network will work, without using it at all. |
