143462 2003-05-12 06:03:00 I've talked to someone here about this and they told me 2 contact Packard Bell...which i did....never heard back, went to store...they contacted them..was meant to get them with 4 working days...never came..contacted store..will call back.,..never happened...
and this was really early this year...
and now my computer really is in dire need of a reformat and stuff as theres sooo many files and documents and games and non-exist files or unuseable files(as to uninstalling problem thread)....
so i got out my books...and went to pages about Master CD Creator..which means i can make the 4 master cds myself...and open up the hidden space to use to my use...
and then i went to see if i had all i needed..and when i went to do it...i was meant to click on "Packard bell master cd creator icon which is located in smart restore... which is located in "start" all programs" pc tool ket and services...
but i searched everywhere...did a computer search on c drive and thru programs and control panel...and the only thing i have with "restore" in it..is the system restore...(restore computer to earlier date)

so what do i do?...and how can i fix this?....

I'm using:

winxp home on a packard bell imedia computer with 20gig hdd...1.5 is hidden....and 256mb ram

Hope someone can help :D

143464 2003-05-12 10:38:00 You were talking to me Chris!

Have you got a floppy disc with "Packard Bell Recovery Disc" printed on it?
You can reformatt your computer from that

No he can't. Well no, yes he can. Only trick is, he can't install Windows XP on that formatted disk. I presume that WinXP came packaged (OEM Licence) with the computer.

I suffered the same problem some time ago - this thing had WinME onboard (OEM). When you buy a Packard Bell computer, you don't get the OS packaged with it. It is already installed. I managed to get 3 "Master CD's" sent to me from Packard Bell, but it doesn't load like an operating system. Their recovery discs are a pain - there are 3 of them. This was most of a year ago that I got these.

This is your copy of the recovery. Its always good to say "read the instructions", but who would do such a thing?:|
You should have something similar to "Easy CD creator" - try looking for this. In this proggy you should have the ability to create the rescue disks.

Good luck, or rather good patience.

143467 2003-05-13 00:30:00 as mentioned b4...
that doesnt exist on my computer..
but i guess its in hdd somewhere...
if u have the location specifically could u pass it on so i can make mine?

143468 2003-05-13 04:28:00 So you have no CD writing tool on your computer now. Thats a pity.
If you look in uninstall programs, does it have a tool in there ?:|
I don't think you will have any luck there though.
Sorry, but you'll have to try Packard B again. I must say I got good results from them a year ago, but so they should with the systems they have out there.
I can only hope they answer your call quickly

143470 2003-05-13 07:29:00 Chris,

Have you still got the original OS on your computer, or have you upgraded it?

When I brought my Packard Bell, there was a floppy disc in the floppy drive when I unpacked it. This is the floppy you use to reformatt and reinstall.

My email (msn.com) is Big_Baldy@ Drop me a email and I will help if I can

143471 2003-05-13 10:08:00 ok i'll explain why i need master cds and not being eager to use floppy...
a friend of mine has a computer which is 100% identical (same kind...some hdd size, ram and programs etc)..and his floppy had a coffee...yeah coffee got spilt on it...a while back and he wanted to reformat his computer....
so i lent him mine...and when he used it...the reformat went alright but the computer was missing a lot of files...nortons wasnt there....star office wasnt there...xp messenger wasnt there...outlook express was there but needed to be installed and kept giving a "file not found" error during installation...and the search doesnt work, only if ur connected to the internet it does (search results come in yahoo but doesnt search computer for anything)

and i was planning on a reformat of mine after him but guessing i cant if thats the result of his reformat...
so yeah i got out my books to see about master cds since yeah baldy mentioned it yonks ago and i looked into but they never came...as mentioned in first post...

hope this gives a clearer picture why i need master cds not floppys...
