143774 2003-05-13 09:27:00 Our dial up connection attempts to dial a connection as soon as W98 SE starts.

Our W98 set up requires a user name and password, but the dial up connection attempts to connect before a user name or password are entered.

We do not know what program makes it do this as it never used to. How do we stop it.

143775 2003-05-13 09:53:00 Hi
This has absolutely nothing to do with what you asked, but when I was growing up my family were great friends with a Dey family on the Isle of Skye of the coast of Scotland. Some of them are still there !

Hope you get your query answered soon.

143776 2003-05-13 10:09:00 First thing is to find out the program that is causing this. Go start-run and type in msconfig Then click on the start TAB and you can untick things you know, to stop running on startup.
Usually caused by programs that want an update from the internet. But can also be malicious.
Any queries, post back here. Further clarification etc...

RealPlayer
RealDownload
WinAmpAgent
ICQ
MIRC
WindowsUpdate
MSMSGS
BigFix
GetRight
Napster

Zone alarm is known to cause this problem especially after an update. Not sure if there is any fix for that but selecting Never dial a connection in IE options/Connections will stop it but you will need to create a shortcut for your dialip connection so you can dialup and connect.
