| 144013 | 2003-05-14 05:56:00 | I have just added a 2nd 40GB hard drive to my P4 1.6MHz system which already had a 40GB drive. When I rebooted, the new hard drive is not showing up under My Computer. The new hard drive has been seen via the Bios but for some reason its not showing up in My Computer. I am running Windows XP Pro Any advice appreciated. |

| 144015 | 2003-05-14 07:40:00 | What do you mean 'initialise'? I can't get to it theoretically as Windows ain't displaying it so that I can format it. It's displaying on the boot up screen ("detecting IDE") but not once XP up and running. |

| 144016 | 2003-05-14 07:57:00 | go into disk management under windowsxp and see if it detects the drive there.. it will display as a healthy unformatted drive.. probably named drive1 (where your existing drive was named drive0) to get to disk management, right click on "my computer" and then click on "manage" In the resulting window on the left click "disk management" and wait a few seconds while it connects to the disk manager service... It'll look a little something like this: www.area450.com Then if the drive is displayed there as a healthy unformatted drive, right click on it and create a partition, then format the partition with your file system of choice (fat32 or ntfs).. make sure you get the correct drive though! dont go formatting your boot drive ;) |

| 144017 | 2003-05-14 08:21:00 | Brilliant Started that process off -- I am partitioning this 2nd hard drive into 2 parts 1 at 27.2GB and 1 at 10GB Iam intending to use the 27.2GB partition as part of Win XP Pro installed on my first hard drive and the other 10GB partition to install Red Hat Linux for a bit of a play. How do I get this doen -- just format the 10GB partition - but then how do i get Red Hat linux to install only on that partition (will Red Hat offer me drive choice during install process?) Grat advice before -- thanks and much appreciated. |
