143809 2003-05-13 10:30:00 I have a file that was accidentally downloaded when my kids were searching for some music. Looks like a header some porn site has used to get the attention of search engines...as it has a collection of ummm...quite descriptive terms for female body parts. Fortunately there's no file...just the name so if you try to open it, nothing happens. I want to delete it as it doesn't look very nice in with a collection of music titles but when I try I get a message saying the file name is invalid or too long. I've tried to rename it but then I get pretty much the same message. Any ideas how to get rid of this interloper?

143810 2003-05-13 10:38:00 What operating system are you using? If win95 or win98, does the name have an underscore in it (underscore is _ ) ? Pheonix (280)
143811 2003-05-13 10:52:00 Have you run an up to date antivirus scanner over your system? Do you have Adaware or Spybot installed? Jen C (20)
143812 2003-05-13 10:57:00 my usual trick for this is to take everything out of the folder that you want to keep and then delete the folder. tweak'e (174)
143813 2003-05-13 11:08:00 There are no underscores in the file name. There are a 4 brackets though. ()()
I'm running Win 98 SE.
Ran McAfee over the whole system during the weekend. No probs
If nothing else is suggested I'll try emptying then deleting the folder.
Thought I could possibly hop into DOS and delete the file that way if I get annoyed enough.

143814 2003-05-13 11:15:00 Yeah, DOS would do fine if you're runnig 98SE :-)

get into the folder and type:
dir /w/p
that'll display the folder contents so you can view the DOS filename (Likely 'prawni~1.exe' or similar with the ~1 in the name :-)).

Then its just 'del filena~1.exe' and you're peachy :-)

...Hopefully ;-)

Cheers
