2003-05-14 10:46:00 | >I still have to change to *.BMP to be > able to view it on the wallpaper, without going to > "active etc" From my recollection of Windows 9x, to display as normal wallpaper you need to convert the image to .bmp format. To do this, open the image in an image editing program, and "save as" [filename].bmp. Renaming the file will not work. But I have not used 9x for a long time, so your mileage may vary....

2003-05-14 11:04:00 | do a google search for "webshots", join up it is free, you can then put your picture in there as wallpaper, along with heaps more an have them cycle however you want ie mins, hrs, days etc. it also has a nice desktop calender and you can download from thousands of catagories any pics that you like. hobbies nature animals etc. instructions with the program are quite easy to follow | teddybear (2443) | |
2003-05-14 11:18:00 | win 98(any), right click opened image (JPG/JPEG is fine) and select "Set As Background". I think it requires IE 5 or 5.5 and above to achieve this. See if this method, with above versions, requires you to select active desktop. HTH. Cheers Murray P

2003-05-14 21:47:00 | Thank you 1.(?)0103 I still have my sense of humour - but I don't think I am so dumb that this can't be corrected. Basically all I want is to be able to convert any file already in my computer, into a different kind. My changing the wallpaper I was only setting up a gimmick though that is complimentary to the above request- I have been able to snapshot both my active and in active screens and send them ( even this , only after a re boot ). Compliments : 10103 you went the extra mile to help, succesfull or no. effie c

2003-05-16 04:10:00 | My apologies SusanB and all others - age and senilty is apon me changing wallpaper / file spec Reply Hi this is to thank 140103 and godfather for their info in changing the wallpaper from the posting 14 May-which has led to a result . Being further down the line it is worth putting in a fresh post for the public, to see readily . Godfather suggested a file change in win X was about having to use a paint type process to change the format - and it worked . In fact I used Paint Shop Pro to do it - and as godfather said a fresh filing was required - and not a simple alteration which to me, meant just a simple "click" Ha! not so . I recommend that any new query would be worth going to the answers in the original post of 14 May effie c Susan B Posted: May 15, 2003 1:37 PM Posts: 2879 From: Nimbus 2003, Version 2 . 4b (beta) Registered: Jun, 2002 Re: changing wallpaper / file spec Reply Glad to hear you fixed your problem Effie . You could also have changed the format in Paintbrush if you did not have Paintshop Pro, simply by saving the file as a . jpg instead of . bmp . > Being further down the line it is worth putting in a fresh post for the public, to see readily . Just a little tip for you: it is a good idea to keep your posts in the same thread so that people can see the history of your problem . If you had posted this in your original thread it would have been "bumped" up the page and everyone would know what you are talking about . Doing it this way means that anyone reading your other thread in the future (eg doing a search on wallpaper) will miss this post and not know what the outcome was . Just thought you would like to know for future reference . godfather Posted: May 15, 2003 1:47 PM Posts: 3680 From: Mainland Registered: Jun, 2002 Re: changing wallpaper / file spec Reply Hi effie c Glad it worked . I had read through the posts, and had formed the conclusion - though it wasn't stated anywhere - that you may have been "renaming" and not changing the actual file type . Its not always immediately obvious for many that renaming is almost always the wrong method . With later versions of Windows its not necessary, as the wallpaper can be . jpg .
