2003-05-14 11:53:00 | Please, before continuing, read this (www.pcauthority.com.au) page in it's entirety. While the whole "aimed to make users upgrade their hardware" thing may be a little dubious, I love everything else about that article/opinion. Windows Server 2003 outperformed Linux. The Windows "Longhorn" GUI is not a Mac-clone. The Athens PC isn't just a pretty face, it also packs a punch (unlike the "lampshade" produced by Apple ["teletubby land"? Yeah, right). If I had money, you can trust me, in three years, I'd have the latest Microsoft had to offer. Now, your opinion please.

2003-05-14 12:26:00 | I can't say I approve of Microsoft's dominance of the OS market, their spying, releasing of quarter finished products that are made complete after 5 service packs and hundreds of patches (some of which need to be patched) and using the public as guinea pigs while they count their beans... that's not on. However, Apple computers are definately more of a "fashion satement" than a multi-tasking home computer. Compared to a PC that's exactly what they are - over priced, under powered and non-expandable (they are better than they used to be with FireWire periphials and such but they cannot match the power of PC!). :p

2003-05-15 08:37:00 | Not ANOTHER O/S war. I keep saying that if your O/S and computer work for you then why change. Why do we always RAM (forgive the pun) our opinions down others throats. Decide what software you want to run then go and buy the PC, MAC, Acorn, Sega, Xbox, Playstation or Cray that will do it for you. Yes I know I left out the SUN workstations but not on purpose. A mate of mine left NZ about four years back and he was a fan for the MS Flight Sim 98 at that time. Came back via the USA and someone talked him into buying a MAC. He arrived back in NZ and couldn't run the FlightSim on the MAC in spite of using Win emulators. The upshot of it all was he sold the MAC and I made him a PC. He is happy now as he can run the SOFTWARE he wants.

2003-05-15 08:38:00 | Now that is very well said. There are Emulators for everything (WineX for Linux.. No$GMB to emulate gameboys..) but quite honestly you'll never get the same deal as a native OS PC. ...Im hoping this will not be an OS war, rather a discussion on other tactics employed by MS, Palladium, and other such things... :-)

2003-05-15 08:39:00 | But if you only want to run Linux then give a 486DX 4/100 a new home. | Elephant (599) | |
2003-05-15 08:51:00 | Yes.... And we all have some sort of a budget to work to don't we? The fact is ( as far as I am concerned ) is that I simply can't afford to go and buy a MAC as much as would like to have a PLAY. I can use the one I have now to dual boot when I want to but it's still only a play. For my real work I use a PC running WinXP. IT WORKS FOR ME!!!!! :-)

2003-05-15 09:13:00 | Personally i wouldn't want to touch Palladium with a six foot pole. *My MP3's D: And isn't Longhorn suposed to be based almost completely on SQL ? The Holeiest (as in Buggy) server out there? The last 3 major worms having exploited bad code in SQL server to bring the internet to its knees? Hmmmmm, and if it turns out like all their other products i suspect we will be in for some crap. WinXP will do fine for me at the mo. But as soon as linux can get some decent support for PC games, Then i MIGHT consider changing.

2003-05-15 09:20:00 | Just to add my little bit [again]: I find it disgusting to see that on the RedHat website (http://www.redhat.com), they actually make digs at Windows, saying things like "if it actually works". I cannot believe that a corporation would sink to this level publicly. I wonder if they've even actually tried Windows XP?
