144124 2003-05-15 09:47:00 >Windows Server 2003 outperformed Linux.

Performance tests always seem to cause lots of controversy - lack of knowledge in setup, ..... etc. I would not necessarily believe that Windows 2003 is faster than Linux - have a look at:

144125 2003-05-15 09:52:00 What is it that your complaining about this time??
The only thing I could find remotely relating to this on the RedHat website was the fact that it took several reboots with Windows to get everything up and running - whereas Linux got everything first time, on the reboot you were sweet :D
That's about it

144126 2003-05-15 10:05:00 The MSFS has gone by the way side. It is now going to sit on top of NTFS and even that is in doubt. mikebartnz (21)
144127 2003-05-15 10:10:00 I would give it a rest if I were you agent. mikebartnz (21)
144128 2003-05-15 10:19:00 I don't see why, this ain't no OS war. agent (30)
144129 2003-05-15 11:03:00 You said it all in your original post. mikebartnz (21)
144130 2003-05-15 11:10:00 Oh, sorry.

Anyway, I did not intend this as a troll, or an OS war. I wanted peoples general opinions on the Windows Server 2003 test, and whether they liked the sound of the upcoming GUI, not to mention that Palladium (or Trusted Computing, whatever it's called) is optional.

144131 2003-05-15 11:22:00 Okay.. I got a few things:

WinFS or whatever>
Its being built on top of a FS that's not been 100% proven perfect, I still stick with FAT32, but others choose to adopt it for its much better securities.
IMHO - They need a FULLY NEW FS that's built on a database schematic.

Gaming without Windows>
Linux can now run BF1942, Dungeon Seige, Half-Life
Try looking up WineX in Google :-) WineX 3 is great, Ive got my hands on a beutiful pre-release ;-)

Palladium>
If I can help it, Im not touching it with a pole either, but Ive installed WMP9 and agreed to some rather draconian T&C.
You really wanna know what I think, Im gonna hold my MP3 connection on a shared network drive with Read-Only rights, or put them onto a CD-R.
Once Ive done that, I'd love to see somebody's PC with a mind of its own try and erase data on a CD-R!

Win2003 Server>
Damn fine OS IMHO! I've use rc2 and it was a brilliant OS, speedy as anything!
The question is who setup both the PC's.. Who optimised them in those tests etc.

And as for GUI's, well, I like GNOME and Win2K.

Even with no Eye-Candy, I'd rather not use WinXP :-)

Just personal preference though.. my family would rather XP.. but as soon as its due for a format (And that's soon) its going to RedHat 8!
