144872 2003-05-16 12:41:00 Hi,

What is the best deal with Jetstart? Meaning what do u think is the best plan by which ISP. Also which ISP has the cheapest monthly rate. I understand telecom charges $35 monthly.

How does other companies compare? Like cable solutions, Ihug Satellite etc..

What is the downloads achievable for normal stuff and MP3's.
I am waiting to 256k connection then consider it.

144873 2003-05-16 13:00:00 just read the ihug ultra's site. not suited to me given the small MB's. :) nomad (3693)
144874 2003-05-16 13:17:00 Hi

I am with Paradise. Cost:

$30.00 per month to Paradise
$29.95 per month to Telecome

Paradise give you 10 gig 'traffic' allowance. They calculate international traffic at full rate and national traffic at 10% of actual. I used 1.5 gigs first month, 1.2 second month.

I have downloaded quite a few mp3's, music videos, and misc programs, and was quite suprised how low my traffic was. Paradise does not seem to cap peer to peer file transfers, although I hear some ISPs do.

Paradise's member's pages offer an accurate and up to date breakdown of traffic used. The Telecom usage meter seems all wrong when I have checked that.

Connection is capped at 128. I find download speeds to be, in real terms, approx 1 meg a minute. Currently my PC reports I am connected at 7.2 Mbps, but I know that's wishful thinking lol.

You can connect to the Telecom games realm at full Jetstream speeds without contributing to your traffic allowance. Downloading a game map pack update from the Jetstream games site at this speed was a joy. It was 20 megs in a couple of minutes.

In saying that however I found the number of Counterstrike games servers available at full jetstream speeds (only the Jetstream and Paradise ones) was limited... and full of cheating players. I have been connecting to Counterstrike using my standard Jetstream Starter and playing on Gamespy and Xtra servers, and as the traffic is national and therefore charged at the 10% rate, it is not adversely impacting my traffic totals.

Hope this info helps.

144876 2003-05-16 13:23:00 If you live in Wellington or Christchurch you also have the Telstra Clear option which is 256k's and 10gig for the same price at JetStart.

I have it and its really good, better that Jet Start was.

hope this helps

144877 2003-05-16 13:32:00 Hey nomad, this one has been done to the death on this forum. Just put Jetstream into the search engine for posts done this year and you will be reading until Christmas! :-) Susan B (19)

144879 2003-05-17 02:41:00 A while ago I did a fair amount of research into some of the ISPs offering jetstart.

Anyway I've uploaded a txt file so you can make your own mind up. I only really investigated the major ones. Some ISPs had ridiculous costs.

Just copy the link and open it in a new browser window (or tab). I opened it in a new tab and didn't have any problems.
