2003-05-16 11:29:00 | I just got Sky digital. I have a dial up connection. I used to connect at 48k. Now I connect at 26-28k. Not even 28.8!! - like 1997. When I unplug the sky telephone cable I get 48k back on redial.... Anyone have a similar issue? Nomad.

2003-05-16 11:31:00 | I have sky digital. I never plug the phone circuit in. Unless you want to watch pay movies, or use Skymail you do not need to. | godfather (25) | |

2003-05-18 23:36:00 | a day or two later i had a disconnection issue. i rang SKY and they said they book a tech for me. then bit later it worked again when i plugged the phoneline back in. does it need it for authenticity like once a day or so?? i will try it out w/ and w/o the phoneline and see what happens. | 144832 | 2003-05-19 00:40:00 | Hey nomad, A phone connection is NOT required for Sky digital. I refused to allow the technician to connect my decoder to the phone line when I had it installed 2 or 3 years ago, and I have had no problems. Cheers Miami

2003-05-19 05:43:00 | i know a one stage sky was sending a signal through so the decoder would call back to check if the decoders had phone jacks connected (proberly due to a lot of techs not "installing" the jacks properly). not sure if they still are doing this however. other than that theres no other phoneing back that i know of so your quite safe to leave it dissconnected. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-05-19 06:56:00 | I have only had Sky ring once, when they were rolling out pay-per-view movies, to confirm that the decoder was plugged into the phone line. I plugged it in, they did their test, I unplugged it and that was it. Its still unplugged. That was over 2 years ago. | godfather (25) | |
2003-05-19 10:51:00 | i believe the fault is the sky customer card or the decoder or the unstable reception. i had the phonline in, still the reception crashed this afternoon for like an hour. i pushed the cables in and re-insert the card and fixed. N.

2003-05-19 11:17:00 | ???? i thought u had an internet >disconnection issue not a reception issue. next time your sky goes awol, if its totally blank screen most likly decoder fault, rainfade message- go to signal streanth screen check the 2 bars. if the one on the right is at 0 and the left one up high then dish is out of alainment or something blocking the signal. if both bars are awol then LNB fault.
