144647 2003-05-16 00:20:00 I recently bought a new computer with ASUS P4S8X Motherboard, Seagate 120GB SATA hard drive, Pentium 2.533 GHZ processor and windows XP Home.

I tried to download the software for my Canon G3 camera and made a muck-up of it. When I had a second attempt, the system would not let me continue, stating that an installation was underway. But there was no way to get back to the original installation.

So muggins decides to reload Windows (BIG MISTAKE!) Part-way through the device installation phase, the system totally locked-up leaving me in Never Never Land. I took the machine back to the shop from which I bought it. They fixed it, but who also deleted files from the drive sugesting a reformatt may have been performed

They said they had to use a "bodge" to reload Windows as Windows does not recognise SATA drives.

Is this correct, or was the computer not set up properly in the first place? I find this worrying because I can no longer reload Windows without the shop being involved at the expense of two hours labour. Also, what should I have done when Windows refused me to let me have a second installation attempt of the camera's software?

144648 2003-05-16 00:47:00 I think the SATA drivers will be like SCSI drivers.
When you boot off the Windows XP CD and the blue screen first comes up it gives you an option to press F6 (I think or could be F2) to install SCSI drivers. Do this then at some point it will ask you to insert the floppy disk with the drivers on it. You should have one of these for the SATA drivers or if not download it from ASUS website.

Search Seagate's website since the drive is manufatured by them.

Look in the FAQs found in the Seagate Disc Technical Support Index.
