144643 2003-05-15 23:37:00 My bios does not really have many settings for the agp. how would I tell if the card is running at 4 agp. on my videocard interface it has all these tick boxes for "enable agp" & 2 4 8 x agp tick boxes all unticked.
Not paranoid but just want to know how this works.
Maybe I could do a bios flash, seeing as I have a dual bios.

144644 2003-05-16 00:03:00 Well Ron,

Your AGP slot is likely set to cruise at the max speed, Im not sure if the actual slot itself can be put back in speed, as they are backwards compatable. It would be the AGP Card itself that would be put back in speed AFAIK :-)

It would be in Windows that you would find that information.
I think its in the Display Properties, but I cant be too sure (not in doze right now sorry).

Hope this helps

Cheers

144645 2003-05-16 01:43:00 hi Ron,
dependant on which version of windows you are using, you may have to install an AGP GART driver.. these can be found on your mobo manufacturer's website, or if you know the chipset you can download directly from the chipset manufacturer (for example if your mobo chipsets are made by Via, then you can grab the 4 in 1's (or hyperions as they are called these days) and install those)

the other advantage of doing this (installing mobo drivers) is that you get IDE bus master drivers as well - an improvement in drive performance and lower cpu utilisation...

Once all your mobo drivers are installed, your AGP should be completely enabled and ready to go...

One way to check is to fire up a run dialog (windows key + r or start > run) and type dxdiag and press enter... the directx diagnostic tool will fire up. Click on the display tab and see if "AGP texture acceleration" is enabled.. if it isnt, you need an AGP Gart driver, if it is, you should be ok...

as for telling the current settings of your agp.. a program like sisoft sandra should tell you... I recommend you look at rivatuner
