2003-05-15 13:22:00 | Is this a hardware issue or software. Laptop w/ a mini pci card. 3Com 56k 10/100 lan. IBM laptop. 1. Modem is fine, network buggy. I send back. They call me asking what errors they tested and found none. I told them - they swapped the card for me. Could u believe?? 2. Now Lan is fine. Modem now fails intermiddently. Like 4days after receiving laptop. 3. I send back. They say tested and no issues. Send back to me. 4. I am unhappy spoke to them at least 10 times on phone incl to 0800 and also the Auckland technicians. They even said they are "stoked" and are limited in their testing equip. They then tell me load win98 recovery cd and we can be 100% guarantee its not s.w. I did it and it still failed. I call again now they say its still software and its not their responsibility. If they find nothing or if its s/w they will charge me $160/hr. Now I have given up. I buy my own mini pci card from usa for $10us. The issues comes like each day or two then 2hr later it can be fine. ie.. yellow exclamation mark in device manager "code 10" (win2k), "error 797" opening port - when dialling (win2k). "error 1010" (win98) DSP cannot be uploaded to system. Nomad.

2003-05-15 14:00:00 | Sounds like it's a fault with the pci controller on your motherboard. Or faulty wiring between the minipci slot and the motherboard. In all cases it most probably has not been due to any fault with the cards themselves.

2003-05-15 21:11:00 | It is a bit curly. Shame you can't easily test the card in another unit. But if you are having problems with a third card, then something else is going wrong. Have you got any other mini-pccard devices plugged in? If they have problems then it would suggest it was the laptop somehow (but possibly software, although less likely if the other card is not a network/modem card). The network aspect is working okay? robo.

2003-05-16 01:01:00 | i did a win98se recovery CD installation . which formats it b4 . i have suspicion its the mini pci card . the new one is dodgy . well, its impossible reasoning with them . i can buy one from usa and it will be comparative to the price of the courier to auckland which may not get resolved . um . . . no i had 2 cards only . one card which had network issues, modem absolute fine . they swapped card for me . now LAN is superb and modem has problems now and then . . . yes i cannot test the card in another machine . the issues do not interfere at all if its working (no drop outs) . if it fail it will fail upon startup . with my 1st card i had never had this issue before and its the same card . i used ibm driver as well as 3Com's .

2003-05-16 01:04:00 | mini pci card is the one which u install under keyb or under a panel like a RAM stick. not the PC CARD or PCMCIA. | nomad (3693) | |
2003-05-16 01:07:00 | i got errors on win2k. now and then. such as every 1-d days. then few hrs later i can work fine upon startup. i was told by ibm to do a win98se recovery. i did it and so got those errors too. every like 1-3 days. then few hrs it goes fine upon restarting. while in between all i did was turn off and turn on. if i turn off and on immediately i will not fix it. u have wait a few hrs.
