145088 2003-05-18 03:09:00 That's why they have the 'Remove Hardware' option..

Its normally hidden.. yet, Ive done it with a Removable CD-ROM drive on my Laptop.

The little icon doesnt usually appear in the systray until Ive actually removed the CD-ROM (Unless I have a PCMCIA NIC in the laptop at the time).

The point being.. You can use that to 'safely remove hardware' from the machine.

Getting to that is another matter though...!?!

145089 2003-05-18 03:23:00 So how do I tell XP that it's a removable drive? I know you could do it pretty easy in previous Win versions, but I can't find it in XP.

Mike.

145091 2003-05-18 23:09:00 You can get removeable caddys that take an IDE drive but interface with the mobo via USB (similiar to the external USB connected drive boxes). This allows you to hot swap, but the access speed may not be quite as good as raw IDE :| wuppo (41)
