145008 2003-05-17 06:49:00 bmason. Please let us know how you find Avast works? PJ Poppa John (284)
145009 2003-05-17 07:49:00 You can get a free anti-virus program from http://www.free-av.com/

Click downloads
then the big "Anti-vir" words/button.

145010 2003-05-17 07:53:00 Heaven forbid you might have to start paying for things that in effect save you a great deal of money by protecting your machine... good gracious no.

That or you could read the filenames of attachments before clicking them... chances are japanese_girlfriend_game.jpg.exe isn't what it seems...

I run no virus protection on my machine at home, and none of our machines at work have protectors on them either.

We don't use server based virus scanning, just basic common sense.

Loosen your purse strings.

145011 2003-05-17 08:08:00 Well I've installed it. It has a bloody skinned interface, which like most others leaves a bad first impression because you don't know how to used the damed thing.

It also has a bunch of eye candy animations, but atleast they don't get in the way.

Heres a screenshot (homepages.paradise.net.nz).

As for performance, it picked up exploder.ocx with a manual scan, the resident sheild didn't trigger. I didn't try loading it with IE. AVG performed the same.

145012 2003-05-17 08:58:00 W T F . I hear what you are saying. It would be nice to have a purse with
something in it to spare. Not all of us are ALLOWED to work, any more. To be able to get Xtra etc means No Beer, Only 2 haircuts a year, etx, etc. However it is all worth it to be "Online" & get the "Uplifting" PF1. PJ

145013 2003-05-17 09:15:00 I just checked loading exploder.ocx. Avast's resident protection failed to detect it with both standard & high sensitivity.

AVGs resident sheild picked it up.

145014 2003-05-17 09:17:00 > Only 2 haircuts a year

Get Maryann to do it Poppa. All she needs to do is put a bowl on your head and trim around the bottom. You can have one every six weeks then and it will cost you nothing. :p :^O

Xtra is overpriced ;-)

I just don't think people should continually rely on free things... regardless of how important or trivial they are...

145016 2003-05-17 09:25:00 SusanB. Maryann says "Cute As" PJ says not Pygmalion Likely. Had exactly those haircuts as a kid during WW2. Excrutiatingly embarrassing home haircuts. No way Hosay!!!!!!! PJ Poppa John (284)
