145322 2003-05-18 00:08:00 I have Quick-Time 5 pro (no i didn't pay for it) just so i can play .mov files and some online clips. but every time i use quick time, the evil system tray icon re-apperes. i used msconfig to get rid of it, but it still comes back after you use Quick time again :( There are currently about 10 unchecked "Quick-Time" boxes DOES ANYONE KNOW WTF IS HAPPENING?????????????????????? :| fus1_n (3818)
145323 2003-05-18 00:14:00 firstly pirate software is not discussed here.

however....seeing as you only need the FREE quicktime to veiw files all you have to do is look in the preferences and take the tick out of tray icon in browser plug in settings. btw i would upgrade to 6.1

145324 2003-05-18 00:22:00 And remove your registration information, too.

I didn't know 6.1 was out though, though it was only up to 6.0.

145325 2003-05-18 00:28:00 if you want you can avoid the crappy quicktime software altogether...

home.hccnet.nl

scroll down to quicktime alternative, download and enjoy...

It doesnt put crap on your desktop, your quicklaunch and your system tray without asking. It is essentially media player classic with quicktime playback filters. It allows you to get fullscreen playback and its faster than the quicktime software too...

Enjoy

Hmmm..........

I wonder if this reputation for crappiness explains why Adaware 6 stalls for ages on the Quicktime folder?

Cheers

145327 2003-05-18 02:15:00 just to add, zoomplayer 3.1beta can play quicktime movies. beta2 should be out sometime today <fingers crossed>. tweak'e (174)
145328 2003-05-18 05:30:00 You need to change the settings in the quicktime programme itself (tray icon unticked)

MsConfig won't delete stuff, it just stops it from running at startup. You really need to remove the registry entries yourself. In msconfig see where the entry is located HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run navigate to something like that, select the quicktime and hit delete!
