| 1337727 | 2013-04-20 08:56:00 | Logic is failing me on this one . Son's Dell Dimension 5750 had a PSU (Silverstone 500W) upgrade a couple of years ago when he got a beefier graphics card . A couple of days ago the machine failed to power up . Mobo LED lights up, front power LED blinks orange, fan doesn't run - no kick at startup, either . Unplugged all cables, grounded pwr good lead and the PSU fired up fine . All voltages were there . Removed all plugged items from mobo and connected PSU up again and got same result as above . Subbed in two other PSUs and they powered up and ran the Dell machine fine . Put the Silverstone PSU into wife's PC and it runs fine! WTF? This has me wondering what to do next as my powers of logic have run into a dead end . Maybe I swap wife's PSU with son's and all will work again! Any ideas? |

I suspect the mobo is the guilty party so my son might have a good excuse to buy a new comp! Certainly a new comp and new PSU will fix it! |

| 1337730 | 2013-04-20 22:02:00 | Thanks, Chill, but this model saved money on that feature! The original PSU cables are as short as possible and as few as possible. Even had to add a power extension to reach the HDD. Bloody cheapskates. Have rooted out the graphics card and have put the original PSU back in so at least it runs and he can get a new comp in slow time. The C: drive is an old 80GB IDE job so that is as slow as all get out. Definitely time to move on! |
