1312982 2012-11-17 08:04:00 I got a unwanted email and all/most of the email address were put in the Cc: entry of the email function, I replied (no harm intended) with a story that went off to about fifty people, The person who sent the original email (and put all his contacts in the Cc: entry) is upset with me now, I think the person is upset over nothing

To put it blunt I am sick to death of idiots who should know better and should use the Bcc: entry, has anybody had any luck with this issue and The Privacy Commissioner?

1312983 2012-11-17 09:04:00 Seriously, you need some self control and composure. If the reply you sent out was similar to the threads you start here, there is probably a logical reason why the person is upset.
I'm going to assume you humiliated yourself (and him by association).

........

Why am I feeding a troll? :(

What is your point ? is this how you get 2,683 posting here I asked for some advice and related opinion not membership demoralization .

Have a look at all my posting while they might appear to most as coming out of the strange basket, I have never and I will never go as low as what you have to put fellow Press F1 members down. (apart from this posting)

1312985 2012-11-17 09:38:00 Chill out guys. Talk about whether egregious use of CC: is privacy-commissioner-worthy by all means.

(Does it breach privacy principles? Probably not, I think.)

1312986 2012-11-17 09:47:00 Zara My name and Email address was exposed to about fifty ofter people I think there should be some privacy issue with that when there is a Bcc: function that could be used.

In fact it was not so much the first unwanted email that annoyed me, it was some other member replied to that, I was the second person who used this reply, if the preson is upset it is his fault

Its a well known fact, that countless people use either "To" or "CC" or simply forward, Lots of email clients while having the Bcc, are often not to obvious or visible, and many dont even know what Bcc is or means .

Anyone only has to look at a lot of the jokes that get sent about, many people emails Address are listed . Sure its not exactly private as to who has been sent a mail, thats how spammers get so many peoples Emails .

Not a lot you can do about it . Its all well and good saying people should use Bcc, but try convincing or teaching millions of people in the world to change habits . .

Emails are a little like the internet -- NEVER put anything that you wouldn't like your Mother to See :) . It only takes one person to be a bit careless and all hell can break lose . Note in point look at the ACC balls up a while back -- OOPS

Writing ANYTHING on the Internet, in forums etc is open to being seen by anyone, many people don't realise that .

Including these threads .

Give yourself a good slapping, take 3 deep breaths, and go outside for a while. :D

1312989 2012-11-17 10:31:00 What is your point ?

You made a thread here asking us and somewhat hinting at your identity-or-whatever. An email was spread at 50-odd people, this is a public forum accessible to several billion people around the world.
Yet you care about 50 people knowing.

If you don't want your email shared don't give it to people.

Mostly people use BCC when they don't what others know who gets a CC and not to protect the identity for identity's sake alone - especially if the mail itself isn't confidential in nature; perhaps it was mistake by the original sender to CC rather than BCC, however you call him an idiot - yet as you said you did the very same thing as you mailed him the "story", intentional or otherwise by replying to all, didn't you? Fail to see the irony?

You should teach him about BCCs and you should learn about the difference Reply and Reply-to-All.

The fact that you think that this is a matter for the Privacy Commissioner makes me think you have very little understanding of the world we live in.

Thank you. Have a nice day.

:)

Excellent.
You have now shown him why he shouldn't do that.

Best thing you could have done.
