How can John Key be a political failure?
He is still the Prime Minister

 And he had excellent credentials.

"David Garrett was born and raised in Gisborne. He went to school at Edmund Campion College, Gisborne, before spending a decade working as an oil industry labourer on rigs and pipelines around the world. He then started a second career as a lawyer, practising in Tonga, where he set up a firm that is still running. In New Zealand Garrett became a member of the Socialist Unity Party and was a Labour Party activist.[3] He also worked as a lawyer and a pro-bono legal adviser to the Sensible Sentencing Trust".

Because you can't get a dictator out without a military coup

Go and live in Zimbabwe and see what a dictator is.

And how come John Key gets voted the most popular person for prime minister by miles?

1313063 2012-11-19 07:42:00  Off the top of my head there is Taito Phillip Field, Honourable member for South Auckland who got 6 years for his trouble and Donna Awatere Huata who got 2 years 9 Months for her trouble.

Then outside of parliament we had Sir Douglas Graham...

Both Field and Huata committed crimes in their personal capacity, not through using influence and power from being members of parliament. In other words they could have committed those crimes without ever being elected. What they did was wrong, dishonest, and illegal. Nevertheless they are not examples of corruption by sitting politicians.

As for Doug Graham - what has he done that is corrupt? Too trusting maybe, naive, but so was Bill Jeffries: he lost his own investment in Lombard and could be bankrupt if the liquidators chase the directors. Whatever: this has absolutely nothing to do with Parliament or abuse of power.

Well the Judges didn't see it that way .

Fields used his position to obtain Visas and Huata used her position to obtain money for a foundation she was ripping off .

They were nothing but crooks operating from within Parliament .

However, if you find their behavior acceptable so be it .

From Google:

Taito Phillip Field

Field's downfall came when he accepted free labour from Thai tradespeople who were grateful for the assistance he gave them with immigration matters .

It is wrong for MPs to accept rewards for doing their jobs but Field allowed the Thais to work at some of his properties in South Auckland, Wellington and Samoa .

At one point, he allowed one overstayer to stay in his home even though authorities were looking for her .

The charges centre on allegations Mr Field gave immigration assistance in return for free or low-cost labour on properties he owned in Samoa, South Auckland and Wellington .

When granting the leave, Chief High Court Judge Tony Randerson said there was a strong public interest in allowing a prosecution so the charges could be tested in court .
"There can be no question that the allegations made against [Mr Field] are extremely serious in that they strike at the heart of the administration of a Government and the integrity of members of Parliament," he said in October .

Donna Awatere Huata

On the second day of her defence, Awatere Huata admitted that a letter she wrote to Mr Prebble in 2003 after allegations were raised about the misuse of Pipi Foundation funds, contained a comment that she had kept an "arms length" distance from the Pipi Foundation .

She told an Auckland District Court jury today there was a potential conflict of interests as she was lobbying for funds for the Pipi Foundation .
She was asked if she had lied to Mr Prebble to conceal her involvement in the trust .

"I am not sure if I am being fair to myself by saying I lied," she told the court .

Under cross-examinations by Serious Fraud Office prosecutor Robert Fardell, QC, Awatere Huata said she was looking in the letter to conceal her true involvement in the trust .
