1313036 2012-11-18 21:21:00 He is a busy man probably cant remember every conversation he has. Key has even had cups of teas with gays so cups of teas with an ex mayor of Auckers not so bad. Dotcom gave money to lots of people including one of my customers who used to mow dotcoms lawns.
...

Is this supposed to be a Monday Joke?

And you voted for this kind of 'leader'?

1313037 2012-11-18 21:48:00 Under John Key things have been fairly steady during a world crisis that seems to be getting worse.
OK he is not perfect, but who is ?
H e is just a genuine kiwi guy who wants to make a difference, he is not in it for the money, as he has enough already.

1313039 2012-11-19 00:10:00 .

I reckon that's a slightly naive viewpoint to hold - we absolutely do have double-standards, lies and corruption in NZ politics, right across the political spectrum .

I agree with you that some of our politicians become such with good intentions and intent to make a difference for the better . That's certainly not the primary motivation for all of them though, there are plenty who are in it simply to further their own agendas .

I accept you have justifiable reasons for cynicism . Every now and then a member of parliament says something stupid, gets caught in a conflict of interest, or rorts their entitlements . Tuku Morgan's purchase of silk underpants is a colourful example .

Even so in a parliament of 120 people from all sorts of backgrounds, its very rare for an MP to be discovered as corrupt - taking money for advantage or delivering govt contracts to a friend . In fact I can't think of anyone at the moment .

Shane Jones is facing an enquiry right at this moment as to why - against clear Internal Affairs advice - as a Minister he granted residency to Bill Liu . Allegedly Liu ran fundraisers and donated money to Labour . I'm picking there is no corruption here, just plain muddled thinking . It was a stupid decision but that is a long way from dishonesty . Even so, Shane Jones may be history which is a shame, he's up front and human warts and all .

As for motivation to stand for parliament, there is a certain amount of ego required, but it ain't a desirable job unless you really believe in it . Could you provide a few examples of NZ politicians who have furthered their own selfish agendas?

1313040 2012-11-19 00:41:00 If for strange reason Labour got back in power, David Cunliffe would stuff the country up even more so than what it currently is. QW. (15883)
1313041 2012-11-19 00:49:00 How could there be 'corruption' if corruption is "LEGALISED"? :D

Singapore is one of the cleanest (corruption free) nation in the world, even where no corruption is 'legalised'. I personally have experienced what a 'corruption free' (of course, not 100% though) government should be, and what it is like.

1313042 2012-11-19 01:08:00 I find that the other candidate for Labour leader, Cunliffe, seems to have a built in sneer. Probably can't help it, but it puts me off.

KenI totally agree with you Ken. He has a condescending manner.

 Off the top of my head there is Taito Phillip Field, Honourable member for South Auckland who got 6 years for his trouble and Donna Awatere Huata who got 2 years 9 Months for her trouble.

Then outside of parliament we had Sir Douglas Graham, and............... who was it that stole a dead person’s identity??

I’m sure if I took the time I could come up with others.

Can I borrow your rose coloured glasses?
