2012-11-19 03:38:00 | Many years ago I had a workmate who was very religious and didn't swear or curse, or so he claimed, but every second word was 'flopping', so it was flopping this, and flopping that, the flopping other, and so on, ad nauseam. He 'flopped' so much I was surprised he could stand. Some time before that job I had a workmate who didn't mince his words, he f****'d and c***'d his way through every day, but he was a good workmate and a good friend, and he did me a favour, he put me right off swearing for life. Only problem is, sometimes when I make a real botch of something, like measuring a piece of wood very carefully then cutting the wrong side of the line so that both pieces end up too short to use, I hear his voice telling me what kind of idiot he thinks I am.:o Cheers Billy 8-{) A fart by any other name would smell as bad......................

2012-11-19 04:46:00 | he put me right off swearing for life. Why? I think it's all a bit silly fussing about it. Mythbusters did a test to see if it helped pain. Apparently it did, as opposed to using other not considered bad words. I lost interest a bit when a friend (female) told me I couldn't use the cu** word. I should say co** instead, especially soft co**. Why? It was insulting to women. That was the stupidest thing INMO, and her term is what? Sexist. So I never used co**. I chopped the knuckle off my thumb the other day with a mandolin (food mandolin). It certainly required a rude word, and especially during the mission to stop it shooting blood out all over. Required a few more during cleanup too.

In my opinion that would be an exercise in futility. 1) If you replace it with a new word that means the same thing, you'd be offended when someone says the new word - defeating the purpose of changing it. 2) If you replace it with a new word that is not 'rude', then a new 'rude' word will inevitably pop up to take the place of the old one, because the new one just wouldn't be useful in the same situations. |

2012-11-20 19:18:00 | . . . ban . . . (anyone taking this seriously will be giggled at) What a sad club, nobody wants to find out more, moderators should know this question Why do people hate the word so much we all know it, it sometimes gets BUZZed out on TV . Could it be it is closely related to sex? or is it that criminals use it? how about when people use it, it says more about them than what person they are? maybe all three plus more, if you can think of more please let us know . Question 2 Should we replace it with another word? much watered down, I think maybe we should give it ago AND NO RELATION TO SEX . Question 3 WHY ¿ Well sometimes when I am working at the computer I get taken by surprise and that number one hated word 'comes out' . I just think it would be much nicer if I had of trained the brain to use some other word which means "oh NO! it has done it again and made me really cheesed off" and I am sure if anybody close by hears that other word, it would give them different thinking pattern, if you get the flow . Question 4 [readers response, maybe I am asking too much]

2012-11-20 19:52:00 | Frank, I'm having trouble working out what you're trying to say, and I suspect I'm not alone. FWIW this is an all-ages forum, so here, we blank the word out because that way we make the forum a bit more welcoming to younger folk, of which we have many. Some of PC World's readers are pre-teen, and early teen, and while I know many of them know the word, I'm also pretty certain that their parents would rather they not hang out somewhere it's bandied about readily. I don't have a problem using it, and mostly I have to just be careful to avoid saying it on radio or TV... Replacing it with another word has the issues that were addressed by another poster, so I'm not going to rehash. Continuing to discuss a word that's banned in the forum, by avoiding it but hinting it, verges close to hitting that same problem with parents I mention above. While I appreciate your spirit of inquiry, it's probably best left to another forum.
