2012-11-18 08:02:00 | If I remember rightly there was a lot of infighting in the National party a few years ago when they were not in power about who should lead them. Swings and roundabouts prefect. :)

2012-11-18 09:38:00 | I dont get it, Once upon a time not so long ago, our sports people went to France, we back home had big expectations that soon New Zealand would be proud of our number one sport, it quickly found a place in the 'very sad basket' the administration soon put out a advertisement advertising for a replacement, they even went so far as suggesting that a certain person need not apply, well as we all continued to get older, it came to be that the person who had the job before got it again, to all our amazement. It soon happened that Auckland became a venue to hold world event, and so as the weeks went by, it turned out that we ended up with the gold medal. It was not too long later that a political party loss the the next general election, so what did they do to the person who was the leader of the party 'dumped him' brilliant logic.

However have you watched the US elections? The Democrats are regarded as lefties over there but would make out government look almost communist. We don't have double standards, lies, corruption in NZ politics in any political party. What we do have are well intentioned people who want to make a difference but discover that its like running through glue to actually achieve something. NZ is the least corrupt country in the world. We should rejoice about that. |

2012-11-18 14:18:00 | I don't get it...Graham Henry is not Phil Goff. Graham Henry's co-workers and advisors are not Phil Goff's co-workers and advisors. Hopefully you now get it. If I've misunderstood what it is that you don't get, then please restate your point as bluntly as possible, without attempting one of your trademark analogies (often confusing, sometimes downright bizarre, and usually with an extremely poor signal to noise ratio). Your posts are quite frankly painful to read, and in many cases seem to wrap up the points you're trying to make in a whole lot of obfuscating waffle - this doesn't help, and often serves only to confuse the reader. If you improve the clarity of your messages, you'll have a much better shot at achieving meaningful discourse with other forum users. We don't have double standards, lies, corruption in NZ politics in any political party. What we do have are well intentioned people who want to make a difference but discover that its like running through glue to actually achieve something. NZ is the least corrupt country in the world. We should rejoice about that.I reckon that's a slightly naive viewpoint to hold - we absolutely do have double-standards, lies and corruption in NZ politics, right across the political spectrum. Thankfully however, the impact of those problems in New Zealand is both limited in scope and fairly minor in magnitude compared to most of the rest of the world, which is one of the reasons why we consistently rate highly in the 'least-corrupt' indexes (note however that those indexes do take a lot more into account than just MPs - there are a lot of other factors too). I agree with you that some of our politicians become such with good intentions and intent to make a difference for the better. That's certainly not the primary motivation for all of them though, there are plenty who are in it simply to further their own agendas. Thankfully those who are only in it for themselves are often quite easy to spot, as their public statements and actions don't reconcile with the position they purport to represent. Amazingly, there are plenty of willfully ignorant voters who refuse to pay any attention to such danger signals when they appear in politicians who are on their site of the political spectrum - and perhaps not surprisingly, these voters are often the same people who will come up with (and disseminate as widely as possible) all kinds of irrational conjecture to either tear down those with contrasting political views or positions, or to build up others who they believe to be in agreement with their own political viewpoint. Frequently, this goes further than mere conjecture, and goes as far as outright falsehood (often easily refuted by just a small smidgen of logic or rational thinking) with no discernible factual basis.

2012-11-18 18:45:00 | Yes If you are a National supporter (I am) this Labour infighting is great news. The Greens seem to be making all of the opposition noise at the moment. But I think that National really needs another potential partner. A Labour/Greens/NZ First coalition could beat National at the election. Act (John Banks/Epsom) is not the answer. The Conservatives may be if they could get a bit higher in the polls. The proposed 4% threshold could help them. But National seem to be against this.
