1312400 2012-11-14 05:21:00 My income has barely kept up with inflation over the last 4 years, a quote from Ruups link for anyone who didn't click it
The fact is that household incomes have declined by two per cent in the two years from 2009 to 2011, according to the well-respected Bryan Perry study for the Ministry of Social Development..

On top of that statistics are like religion - they can be manipulated to suit any situation or support any view. Even if the house price part is true anyone who owned a house over the last 10 years can tell you there was a massive jump a few years back, my CV doubled one year. If you go back more than 4 years and look at overall trends the situation is not great, the gap between average income and average house prices has gotten much worse and is showing no signs of more than the occasional mild dip in the right direction.

I'm not shy about actual numbers so here are some for you - I bought my house in 1999 for $135000. I was earning around $54000-$55000 at the time. Current Valuation on my house is $260000 (at the very low end for Hamilton) and my current salary is about $64000. that's a change from 2.4 x my annual salary to 4 x my annual salary and is comparing actual purchase price then to CV now. Actually you'd be hard pressed to buy a house under $300000 or even $350000 in hamilton, the nicer Areas and new subdivisions sell for $450k upwards. Seven times my salary if I wanted to move into a nicer neighbourhood. I would hate to try and buy a house as a young family starting out now.

1312401 2012-11-14 05:31:00 "Household incomes have increased by a third in the last four years, while average house prices have risen nationally by only 1.3 per cent in the same period, making recent real estate market buoyancy unsurprising, says Finance Minister Bill English."My Boss missed that memo. Think I got 2% over the last 4 years. Where's my other 31.33%?! Jen (38)
1312402 2012-11-14 05:39:00 Although a National supporter and a supporter of the free market, I think the time has come to intervene and knock immigration and the refugees we allow in completely on the head. Also deporting anyone not born here children included if they break the law. This would drive down demand for houses in Auckland.
We are luckier than the USA were anti immigration policies killed the Republican vote, here it would be a vote winner.
Perhaps Mr Peters and his party can help they will get my vote.

1312403 2012-11-14 06:33:00 I bought my first house in Nelson Oct 01 for $127000 sold it 2 years later for $265000 and moved into my new wifes home, I was earning $35100 a year then, my currently salary is less than that due to circumstances beyond my control, we still have a house in Nelson worth $400000 rented out while we are renting here in Christchurch because we don't have the money to buy here unless we sell the Nelson house which we don't want to do as we will move back in a couple of years.

So my salary has gone down and not up as they said most have

How did your ancestors get here ? Immigrants were they ?

If that's the case ( which one can only assume given your history of posts ) ever been done for speeding ? Most likely as there aren't many who haven't.

Bang your gone.

Hey I'm starting to see the merit in your logic, I like it....It will sort out some problems with this country after all

Must have been based on a survey of MPs, senior public servants and company directors. Not really a representative cross-section!
We need a system of parliament required to have at least 50% of reps on lower than average wage and living in State houses. Not sure how it could be achieved though.:(

1312407 2012-11-14 21:38:00 It has been apparent for some time that Mr English (AKA Double Dipton) is
in a space far removed from reality, he should go, before he does any more damage.

1312409 2012-11-14 23:53:00 New Zealand's slavish following of right wing free market policies more suited to very large economies in a large infra-structure, intense, highly developed economic environment will be the cause of great regret for many years to come as the folly of the last 30 years is brought into perspective by the dire economic times ahead.

The downgrading of railways and shipping services a contributing factor towards lack of growth in the future.

It will take at least half a century to get back to where we were in the early 1980's before moving on to greater things and by then other much more important world events like global warming and massive increases on the price of petrol and diesel will render that forlorn hope impossible to achieve.

Breath-taking incompetence and lack of visionary leadership coupled with common-sense being the main contributors to the sorry state the country is now in.
