1311887 2012-11-11 08:55:00 I only use XP at my main client site - and even they are planning on upgrading to Win7 in the next few months.

Otherwise it's Win7 and Android OS (not on the same device) for me.

Not interested in Win8, especially as M$ have a tradition of a good OS every second launch cycle. Win 7 was the last one, so I'll try to hang out for Win9 for as long as I can...

1311889 2012-11-11 09:16:00 Interesting figures Currently for Windows 7 on the life cycle Page at MS. support.microsoft.com

W7 --- End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance.

Main Stream = January 13, 2015

Extended = January 14, 2020

1311890 2012-11-11 10:12:00 What a Lot of people see is only the GUI- W8 for example has a few features under the bonnet that many people don't even know about.

It also has the lack of a lot of features that previous versions used to have.

1311891 2012-11-11 14:13:00 I still have XP on my desktop and netbook. Will eventually get Windows 7 when I upgrade each one, primarily because Windows 7 has far better SSD support. Nothing else really grabs me about 7, and I certainly wont be getting 8, have tried it at a JB Hifi on one of their demo laptops, didnt like it laworder (12738)
1311892 2012-11-11 18:14:00 My Father has Win XP still.
He could do with 7, for the screen options, but it's a matter of money.

I know a few others also using XP still, same reason, money..........

1311893 2012-11-11 19:38:00 I still run XP SP2 with all Microsoft updates turned off and have very little trouble.

My wife has Win 7 with everything turned on and probably has more trouble than me.

What annoys me is most of her problems are easily fixed if you can find what you’re looking for.

As I’ve said before, just imagine if the Car Manufactures swapped the Brake, Clutch and Accelerator in every new model they brought out.

Come on Microsoft, how about changing the Keyboard Layout too. :devil

1311894 2012-11-11 20:09:00 Still love XP on my old machine, and I use my friend's XP machine quite a lot. I miss it on my lappie which has Vista, although I'm not tempted to upgrade it to anything else too soon - maybe when 8 comes out with a service pack or two. Greg (193)
1311895 2012-11-11 20:36:00 I am. :D

I read an article last week about Win 8 and how it manages multiple disks in a manner reminiscent of RAID 1, but according to that article if you are not careful, everything on your second disk or partition is overwritten by the W8 install and set up. I'm still looking for where I read that, but I'm pretty sure it was on 'Windows Secrets' because I don't go actively searching for that sort of info.

Will be interesting to read it ,too.

Problem with a new OS is, if it works fine with your system, that's great; but if it doesn't like your hardware setup, you're on your own, there's unlikely any help/solution you will find -- like the problems I'm having now. If my problems persist, I have no choice but to go back to Win 7. Have been using Win 7 since it was first released, a great piece of OS.

Frankly, never like Win 8 since the preview version. I got it simply because of the cheap $19.00 -promo, too good to miss - but it most likely will end up to be a donation to Microsoft!

I see no reason to change something that isn't broken, and I have no need for bleeding edge technology or programs. I'll probably change to Windows 7 whern MS stops supporting XP. Windows 8 will probably never make it to any computer I have, unless they give it a Win 7 mode.

Cheers

I agree. Have had no problem with XP at all. It performs very well. I can see no reason to update a system that is working with no worries.

Also interesting to note that at SWMBO's work they have one hundred or so PCs running on XP and they have no plans to change, either, and that's only one of Westpac's departments. Says a lot for XP.
