1311982 2012-11-11 20:06:00 I've been having some upper back pain for the last few days, a sharp stabbing feeling. It occurs when swallowing, and seemingly random intervals throughout the day. The place where the pain is occuring is a bit below my right shoulder. Any ideas as to the cause of this? Nick G (16709)
1311983 2012-11-11 20:29:00 Is it on the outside of the ribs or inside? If outside you have probably strained a muscle. If so, get some Voltarin Rapid from the chemist. If inside, talk to a doctor. Bryan (147)

1311985 2012-11-11 20:41:00 I have a wedge compression fracture of T7 ... mimics heart problems and makes it damn painful to breathe at times. I would suggest you go to a physio* and let them have a go at finding the problem. I regularly to to go have my back "unlocked" because the cartilage between the ribs & vertebrae doesn't work as it should.

* A real one ... not with extras ... and not one to make you happy for long long time ... :D

I think Nick G might be too young to get this ;)

1311987 2012-11-11 21:21:00 Trapezius muscle is a long muscle and is related to the larynx, pharynx and sternocleidomastoid muscle via Cranial Nerve.

But the doc should diagnose it just in case.

1311989 2012-11-11 21:35:00 Not enough warm bed clothes/pyjamas covering your upper body, you need to ensure your neck and shoulders have a warm cover other than the sheets and blankets, this becomes more important as you get older.

Aches and pains, stiff neck, shoulder or upper back soreness can all be due to cold air, drafts from sleeping under a window or next to an open door.

I still sleep topless (shudder) and so far no problems and I'm significantly older than Nick G i would guess
