| 145583 | 2003-05-18 22:11:00 | Ive had a relative send over a DVD from goodness knows where, but they're made a DVD and its got a nice menu to choose a slideshow of images (only about 15) or a 2 hour long video. Now... How would I go about saving that Video to a DivX compressed AVI file so that I can pass around the DVD to the rest of the NZ relatives, but still keep a copy of it myself. I'd prefer if it was under 700MB so I can burn it to a CD (I have about 2 gigs HDD space), or even 1.3ish gigs so I could put it on two CD's. Ive had a loot around online.. tried DVD-To-AVI and that didnt work, wanted over 5 gigs for the file. I have installed DivX 5.05 (maye .03). Where to from here? Cheers Chill. |

| 145584 | 2003-05-18 22:47:00 | I haven't done that kind of conversion before. but in theory: use a dvd ripper to transfer frames to hard disk. then use virtualdub to convert/compress to divX avi, assuming u already got divX5.05. if u got a free version/shareware version of divX, and choose to compress audio, the audio quality won't be good. if leave audio not compressed, the resultant avi file will be fatter. good luck |

The problem with Gordians Knot is its high learning curve in comparison to step-by-step rippers (none of which seem to work decently these days :( ) So read up on how to use Gordians Knot and you should soon be ripping to a very high quality divx www.doom9.org |

| 145588 | 2003-05-19 05:54:00 | Hi Chilling, There's a freeware program called EasyDivX that does it all for you and puts the converted file into a folder ready for you to burn to CD. It lets you chose whether you want it to fit on one CD or two, and adjusts the video quality to suit. http://easydivx.does.it/ |

Go to www.afterdawn.com and follow the instructions, but insted of ripping, skip to the DVD2AVI section and open the VOB files directly from the DVD disk! | minchjp (3682) | ||
