145742 2003-05-19 11:07:00 hi guys

i am just wondering, if one of my machine is downloading with this modem, it is fast, but my other machine (just surfing internet) will be quite slow, and also even worst, if 2nd machine downloading as well, the speed only can reach to a normal 56k modem speed only...

is there something wrong on my modem???

thanks

145743 2003-05-19 11:40:00 What are your settings and how is your network set up? You could have a look at this www.nzadsl.co.nz for both machines. Are you using MS ICS.

145745 2003-05-19 12:02:00 Internet Connection Sharing. You don't need it if you have a router ie. your comp doesn't need to be set up as an internet gateway, the router does that instead. Do you run a hub or swtch as well as the RTA210? if so you wouldn't/shouldn't be set up as a gateway on your home/master pc.

Could be totally unrelated to what I've mentioned BTW. Just a consideration. What OS's are you running, I take it one is XP.

145746 2003-05-19 12:07:00 Didn't dynalink do a full factory recall on the RTA210?

*Checks http://www.dynalink.co.nz*

Ah yes they did. Send it in for a replacement/fix.

145748 2003-05-19 22:24:00 Yeh they did. A batch of them. Good router tho. I think if that was the problem it wouldn't work at all. Worth a look tho.

145749 2003-05-19 23:51:00 Hi Murray

yes i do use the switch because i need to connect 2 of my computers . . .

hmmm, i am actually using Windows XP Pro . . . well, I am just following the instruction given on the instruction booklet . . . well first of all, i setup the ip address for both of my computers, then subnet mask . . . then put in rta 210 router ip addres on the bottom of the subnet . . .

Afterward right on the bottom, i put down the primary and secondary DNS on that . . .

then i just restart my machine and that is wot i did

then i went to the internet wizard and press, the computer connect on its router (switch) . . .

but the thing is, in terms of the connection of my area . . . at 1st when line check, the internet show that my area have an exchange but further investigation is required, so we called telecom for a full installation . . . but once all installed, in terms of my modem, the Line Attenuation 53 . 5 dB and noise Margin is 13 . 5 db . . . is that a factor that i can't do both downloading at the same time? is there any other way that I can boost it up so that it can keep below 44 db I think . . .

145750 2003-05-19 23:53:00 I have a check with dynalink as well, no my one don't required to send back for a re-check

however, in terms of the sticker, it is like yellowish colour for the background with blue word on there, i don't think this is the one that dynalink is looking for... and anyway, i just brought 2 1/2 months ago at harvey norman, surely this is a good one already....

145751 2003-05-20 03:18:00 One would assume you are on JetStart and not JetStream.

If so then this is perfectly normal. One PC will be using most of the available bandwidth so there is little chance for surfing as well. It will be slow as they come. The more you download the slower each one will become.

Nothing wrong at all. The recall only had to do with a faulty capacitor on the power circuit which when it failed caused the modem not to stay on line for very long.
