| 145853 | 2003-05-20 00:07:00 | I have just downgraded a 56MB computer from Win ME to 98SE and now the modem dosen't work! It's a conexant PCI 56K in a Compaq Presario 7200 (year 2000). Windows says please check that the modem is connected and turned on, yadda yadda yadda but it's all fine. Anyone had this problem and know how to get around it. Also the trident chip (what borrows 8MB from ram btw and is integrated) wont come out and show its true colours. I tried to use the detect-a-chip junko from the S3 site but it just said 'trident chip detected' and gave me a list of numbers in what looked like hex or regedit form. Anyone had THIS problem and know how to get around it. Thanks guys Hamstar |

| 145854 | 2003-05-20 02:27:00 | You can't get true colours because the incorrect drive is been used. Update. What com port is your modem on? is it in conflict with the mouse? Why would you downgrade? |

| 145855 | 2003-05-20 02:34:00 | Did you repartition the drive, and remove a Compaq maintenance partition, which holds the BIOS setup? If you didn't, check the BIOS settings. |

| 145856 | 2003-05-20 03:13:00 | I twice have had to jiggle some PCI modems around in thier slot to get them going. I also once had to get some integrated graphics going, I had to get the drivers of the MoBo driver CD (and in the process I saw winME in 2 colours :-p) Cheers |

| 145858 | 2003-05-21 04:49:00 | I did repartition the drive but i don't know about the Compaq maintenance partition, at least i didn't see one on the Partition Magic. And i not sure how to get into bios cos it just comes up with the compaq screen and no options from there. DEL dosen't work. |
