145845 2003-05-19 23:23:00 I have just intsalled a 20GB hard drive in an old system (Celeron 500MHz) and when I turn it on it comes up with the message:"Primary master hard disk fail" The new hard drive is being picked up in the BIOS and on the initial boot screen.
When I try to boot off the WIN98SE install CD-Rom I get a message telling me that Windows 98 is unable to install due to hard disk incompatability/driver problem.

Any suggestions?

145846 2003-05-19 23:51:00 You do not mention whether you have done the important two steps of:
1. partitioning
2. formatting.

If not this is what your problem is.

I'm assuming you removed the other Hard Drive from the system and are using the clean drive for installation.

Make sure the jumper on the back of the cable is selected on master, if running another device off the same cable make sure it's on slave.

Partitioning/Formatting is not important at this stage as you are going to do that during the Win98SE installation.
