146337 2003-05-21 12:46:00 I was just wondering if other gamers out threre suffer from a sore left wrist due to excessive game playing or is it just me? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this other than having a break every half hour as i sometimes get totally absorbed in Counter Strike that i can play 6hrs or more without stopping. I use the default setting on CS should i change it?

146338 2003-05-21 14:52:00 when i played cs i never got a sore WASD wrist... perhaps my ergo keyboard has something to do with that ;) however my ambidextrous mouse on the other hand has caused me constant pain in my right wrist over long periods of use...

my secret for long gaming sessions is to stretch and exercise your wrists between rounds.. this is natural habit for me as I was formally trained to touch type at a young age... even though I have an ergo keyboard on which i can type for hours on end, it begins to hurt eventually (for reference i can go 20-30 mins tops on a flat keyboard before needing a break) Also have a tube of emulgel or some lanolin rub nearby...

In between gaming wear a wrist brace to make sure all your muscles/tendons etc realign and heal in the right place...

OR you could just not game, or reduce your gaming, or use more ergonomic interface devices, or find a better game than CS, such as BF1942 ;)

146339 2003-05-22 00:35:00 I recently got a 3M gel mouse pad, which makes heaps of difference, as it holds your hand on a more natural angle. Also, I swear by micropauses, taking a 2 second break every few minutes generally makes a big difference. honeylaser (814)

After reading your post, I realised you said left hand, so in the case of this being you non-mouse hand, you can get gel keyboard rests. The micropause thing still stands.

146341 2003-05-22 01:50:00 That idea on micropuases is a good idea. Also it might be wise to take a break every say, half-hour or so and do a few wrist exercises - or just make a cup of coffee.

An idea might be to get a cheap support bandage for your wrist
