146194 2003-05-21 05:04:00 the os is win98 se, in windows explorer i can often see additional "shadow" drives for C HDD or totally new drive W. What does it indicate? the computer (amd duron 1.1, ram 256) has just been reloaded from scratch and it was doing before too. andrzej (3843)
146195 2003-05-21 07:39:00 right click on the drive and hit properties, what info do you get that might help us??

146197 2003-05-25 03:30:00 I'm not sure what you mean by "shadow" drives. When does this drive "W" appear? Try rephrasing your problem for our limited imaginations. ;-)

(The fdisk question ... use "FDISK /STATUS" from DOS. What does that show? Though I don't think partitioning is the problem).

146198 2003-05-25 03:47:00 If your hard disk is compressed (using DriveSpace or DoubleSpace) it will create a second "host" drive that is visible in Windows - I don't think people use that utility these days with the size and price of modern hard drives.

Was a good util with my old 162MB HDD running DOS 6.2 & Win 3.11 :D

Need more info!

146199 2003-05-25 08:02:00 I know exactly what you are talking about because it has happened to my Win 98 (1st edition) computer as well. I have no idea why it does it but it seems to have no effect on the computer's operation so I just ignore it. Susan B (19)
146200 2003-05-26 01:46:00 How do i check wheather my drive is compresses? my hdd is 40 gb. andrzej (3843)
146201 2003-05-26 01:49:00 Yes, you are right it does not seem to affect any operation. andrzej (3843)
146202 2003-05-26 01:58:00 Still would like to know what you mean by "Shadow drive". Do you mean that another Drive letter appears which links to C:? Kame (312)
