146933 2003-05-23 10:04:00 I know this question has probably been asked a zillion times before, but I have some specific requirements.

I need a standalone program that will print directory listings. I cannot have anything which requires me to right-click on a folder, and click "print folder" as right-click has been disabled on the computers I intend to use it on. I would like something with a graphical look (like in Windows Explorer), or something similar to the output of TreePrint. The program also has to be free.

For the record, yes I have tried various dos commands, but I dislike the layout of the directory listing.

146934 2003-05-23 12:04:00 Try PowerDesk (www.v-com.com). This is a free download (feature limited trial version). It is a Windows Explorer replacement which I use all the time and can recommend it. To print a folder listing (with the folder selected) just click on File, Print, File List. Naturally, this excellent program can do a heck of a lot more, of course. Rod J (451)
146935 2003-05-23 15:07:00 Thanks for that! I have used PowerDesk for a long time now, but never discovered its Print File List option. Another good thing is that, unlike Windows Explorer, it finds ALL copies of Index.dat on your hard drive.

Re printing directory listings, last August I bought the PC World Ultimate Free Software Minibook & CD for $12.95 and it had a marvellous program, Print Directory 3.1 by Widget Technologies. May be available as a free download. It has the one feature I've always wanted -- the ability to also save the listings as a text or CSV (comma Separated Values) file for use in a wordprocessor, spreadsheet or database.

146937 2003-05-24 23:57:00 Hmm . . . both the programs don't meet my requirements . Powerdesk is too slow at loading a directory, and Print Directory doesn't print the directories in the format I want .

I would like a program which sorts it into a graphical tree eg:

TreePrint listing of: C:\whateverfolder\someother folder\

C:\whateverfolder\someother folder\

146938 2003-05-25 04:10:00 How about these:

Advanced Directory Printer (www.segobit.com)
or
Print It (www.skylarkutilities.com)
or
PrintFolders (ktk.ru)

I found all these programs (and another 67 similar programs) in Cnet Download.com (download.com.com), a great site for finding new software. I just did a search for 'print file list'.

146939 2003-05-25 05:18:00 If you're after that just use the "tree" command in the command prompt/dos/cmd. -=JM=- (16)
146940 2003-05-25 10:49:00 Thanks -=JM=-. It works (sort of).

the
tree > somefile.txt
also works to output to a text file :D:D

146941 2003-05-25 10:58:00 Or you should be able to send it to a printer as well somehow. -=JM=- (16)
