Do all NiMH batteries have the "memory" effect? I'm so confused!

Neither battery type likes abuse, so if you treat them right, they will treat you right. I got 15 years out of a set of nicads in a portable vacuum cleaner, and 18 years out of a set in a Philips shaver.

Some Nicads I neglected dropped their bundle inside of 2 years.

Battery life depends on correct charging (and discharging).

Partal discharge and recharge and you will find that you get less and less active time out of a set. Best to keep NiCads as a set as well so all in a set get equal discharge and recharge times.

We use rechargables of various sorts in a lot of the camera gear (both still and Tv) that we have and providing proper care is taken they will return the favour.
