146779 2003-05-23 07:09:00 Hello,

I have spent about 15 Hours now looking at Voice/Fax software.

The picture painted so far is that buying a dedicated Voice/Fax machine may be the answer.

I thought i would try asking here:

Does anyone know a program which works with voice + fax on a p700 without running like a dog and is stable? if so i would appreciate some names.

I found around a dozen programs although the ones which had features tended to be unrelaible.

Looking for: Answering in Voice+Fax mode, Caller ID Support, Able to allow outgoing faxes via a virtual printer, is fairly reliable, recording is simply message + beep then record either voice/fax [Not a dozen options to press[I had people saying the menu was too complicated]].

146780 2003-05-23 08:07:00 Have used an older program called Bitware and found that very good and reliable. You have to pay for it unless it comes with a modem you aquire. mikebartnz (21)
146781 2003-05-23 08:21:00 Thanks.

It came with mine also.

When i went to get a new version from their site though the new version for the version of windows I have now [to be compatible] has a rather long process of buttons and messages. I was hoping for something more simply.

Thanks for the suggestion :-)

146782 2003-05-23 08:25:00 If you are running WinXP you can use compatability mode. Right Click on the short cut and set ti there. mikebartnz (21)
146783 2003-05-23 08:35:00 Thanks for the tip.

I have used that before although its so called compatibilty seemed to work infrequently.

For now I just started a trial of FaxTalk, which looks like one of the top 3 ones I have tried this far [If its reliability holds out].

Again thanks for the tip :-)

I would rather go with something which is designed to be compatible than incompatible [which would be a last resort].

146784 2003-05-23 11:17:00 You might find Free Call Centre suitable - from V3fax.com

I have used the fax side to send - not receive. I have not used the voice mail option, but looks easy enough to set up.

Would like to know if it works for you.

146785 2003-05-23 11:21:00 Hey :-)

i have used that program, and it worked. However the recording quality it supports and format is very low quality which allows for a very staticy message to record. Other than that a nice program, graphics and interface slightly dated.

146786 2003-05-23 12:03:00 I would be more inclined to buy a dedicated fax machine rather than rely on computer software. For a start you will probably get conflict between voice/fax calls even if you were to get faxability as most modems dont have distinctive ring option. I suppose it would depend on how many faxes you expect to receive, when you would receive them and will the computer be on all the time.

I am a relatively big fax user and have spent many hours trying to get my winfax program to take care of everything without 100% success so have resorted to the fax machine to receive and send faxes, and the computer to send faxes if it requires that professional touch (ie using templates).

Also if you do receive a fax via computer then you would only know it was there unless you heard it come through or you regularly check computer for received faxes. At least with a dedicated fax machine you can see the paper (received fax) visually even if you dont hear the fax come through.

146787 2003-05-23 12:13:00 I agree with your statement :-)

At this stage I am trialling faxtalk for the next 15 or so days to see if i'll keep it on. After this period based on present experience I think i will get a dedicated asnwering mach/fax simply because its probably going to be more reliable and less complicated to research reasonably well.

The interface is nice and similair to outlook, The menu is a bit too complex but functions okay if people just hang up. Reliability is pretty good so far and its coping okay with a p700 where ringcentral phoneworks 2002 was quite slow. I tried several others too: my old favourite was Communicate i200 because its voice message was good and to the point, but the program would crash everytime, or very very close to everytime i went to move its window, and also with that program it would take around 15-30 seconds to initialise the modem before it could be used to answer the phone [others so far have not taken this long]

I gave up on winfax too. I believe with it you can use other TAPI Compatible software for voice right? i did read the program called phonetalk was discontinued to do this, although i am not sure how long ago that was.

Winfax's interface was good and feature ladden, slower than some of the small clients but bareable, and probably the price of having more features. Voice support I found was weak however and I want voice+fax support.

146788 2003-05-23 12:24:00 I might have to give that faxtalk a trial . I like winfax, dont know why but I like it . One thing I have noticed is when I use the winfax to send the fax is very clear as opposed to a fax machine .

Fax machines are fairly cheap these days . You will also have to make sure that faxabiltiy/caller ID is available on your exchange .
